"While You Can"

It’s strange the air we breathe
Makes us age as we collectively see
In the book of all of the photographs
Holding the name and the year’s graduating class

As you watch the years go by
The same people you’ve looked in the eye
Day to day if you’re lucky or unfortunate
Every day’s a change not worthy to be missed

Why they have gone
They all have their reasons
Graduating early, pregnancy
Moved away so far, so close
But the opportunity will likely
Never happen again, who knows?
So appreciate the present tense
Appreciate it now, simply, while you can

If a person’s different change
Is good or bad – judgment is made
It’s only those people who seek
To make death their only relief
Whether they choose to believe
What their peers say, changing
From week to week

I’ve missed out in
Thinking ahead from the beginning
Only looking forward
To the final battle, the final win
Lose it or draw
It’s all on your call
Appreciate it now, while you can
