"Why Should I?"

I’m so tired from all of this work
This stuff is supposed to help me learn?
To that, I stick my tongue out
Grades are overrated even when you strive
Because teachers are tripped out
With their power – taking advantage of the ride
Basically holding students back
With the heaviest textbook stack
“Carry this,” back and forth to class
“Bring it every day,” what a hassle
Open to any suggestions, sure you are
Underpaid, you might be, but you’re far
From a good teacher, some homework every night
May be necessary but it won’t change my might
I’ll stay strong since people are counting on me
That’s the thing about responsibility

Why should I wake up?
Why should I step up?
Why should I let go?
How will I know?

I hold a grudge sometimes when
People don’t scratch my back in return and then
I’m pissed at them and I can only win
One battle at a time, so let’s begin
“School is the best time out of your life”
If it is, what’s the deal with being alive?
The real world is knocking on my door
The doorbell is ringing but I’m quick to ignore
It all since I don’t ever wanna grow up
Maybe if I talk slower – the world won’t be so tough
And hard on me, and I’m looking forward to
The day everyone lets down their guards
And I’m waiting for you
To come and unbombard
Me from all of this mess
It’s like not studying for a final test
And then the answers are even hard to guess
Each point you get right, there’s one to make your score less
It just always works out so perfect, eh?
Well, all I can say
Is that I knew it all along
Get the hidden message behind this song?
I don’t wanna wake up
But if I don’t, I’ll never ‘live it up’
“The good life” they say “is right around the corner”
But it’s not, they all lied, and it’s pretty obvious
This good life everyone speaks of, what’s its name?
If there is even such a thing, I’m oblivious

Sleepyhead, wake up
What if I don’t want to?
Do you have good reasonin’?
The whole school thing is not on you
If ya had the chance to go back, you wouldn’t
I know it, cause ya showed it
When you said how you were treated
Back in Tabb, like you were some kind of freak and
You hung out with underclassmen
Cause that’s all you could fit in with
Do you want me to end up like that?
How about you take all of your facts…
And shove them up your a**
You don’t want to, well you’re up to bat
So hit the ball far and swing away
That way you don’t have to say
I had a boring time in school
And I followed every rule
You don’t have to lie to me
Just to get me to do what I need
I’ll learn in time ‘cause it keeps coming at me
It’s so weird that the truth is seen
I wonder why I understand now
When I didn’t before
It’s ‘cause I wake up in the morn'
And treat school not as a bore
But as fun, it’s not even a chore anymore
