Knowlton

Subject: Knowlton family years 1850/1880 St Francis, Co., AR Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2004 20:06:51 -0700 (PDT)
I have been trying to learn as much as possible about my ggg(3)grandfather William R KNOWLTON and his family. His father, Jesse S KNOWLTON moved the family to St Francis Co., AR from Indiana before 1850.
I have found two of Jesse's sons, both William R KNOWLTON b. 1830 and his brother Joshua S KNOWLTON b. 1825 in several census between 1850 and 1880 in St. Francis Co., AR. They were both preachers in the area and in Conway according to several weddings that William preformed. But I can't find anything about William's first wife, the mother of my gg(2)grandmother Faraby Sylvia KNOWLTON Mallett.
I am looking for the marriage of William R KNOWLTON and his first wife before the birth of John S KNOWLTON b. 1859 and Faraby Sylvia KNOWLTON b. 1861. His first wife must have died before the 1870 census. Also anything on the death of Jesse S KNOWLTON b. 1800. They were all in the Union and Liberty, St Francis area during these years.
How can I also find out about land or other documents that might be available? Or church records within the Methodist Episcopal where William was an ordained Minister?
I am living in Mexico as a missionary but hope to visit the states this fall. If possible I would like to make a visit to Arkansas while there.
Thanks so much for any help in finding more information regarding my family and any other siblings.
Sheri Burk

Kimbell/Kimble/Kimbal

Subject: Looking for Burial Place for ancestor James W. Kimble

Hi Paul,
Sure. Use the info any way you would like. Thanks for the info on the St. Francis County Kimbles. I had a lot of it but even one bit of new information is always welcome. What I would really like to know is where James W. Kimbell/Kimbal/Kimble died and was buried. I am sure it was somewhere in Southern TN.
Thanks again.

Query 55:Dickert/Powell

Dickert/Powell
The Dickerts and the Powells all came to Goodwin from Gordon County, GA.
Thank you for your help, Paul. Listing the tombstone inscriptions is invaluable to those of us who can't travel to Goodwin, St. Francis County. I am one of a group of researchers interested in anyone whose last name is Dickert--James F.and Cyrus R. in particular--or Powell--John H. in particular. We believe that James F. lived there from approx. 1882 - 1899. We believe that Cyrus lived there from approx. 1882 - 1935. We believe that John H. lived there between 1881 -1915. In addition, we believe that some of their children and wives are buried in a cemetery in or near Goodwin. Cyrus Dickert's first wife had the initials "F. C." and his second wife was "Martha." His daughters "Lyda" and "Thelma" may be buried there. James F. Dickert's children, Ada and Walter, may be buried there also. John H. Powell's wife Margaret Eliza "Eliza" Moore Powell and their sons Albert Sidney (and his wife Katie) and Alford W. Powell are probably buried there. John H., his wife! Margaret Eliza, and their daughter-in-law Katie--all died within two months of each other in 1915. Was there a dread disease in Goodwin in the Spring 1915? His son Albert Sidney died two years later in 1917. Albert and Katie's son Leon has been lost to our study group. He lived for a time with a cousin there in Goodwin--Homer Virgil Dickert--and then disappeared. So would you also add Leon to your list? And, finally, would you please look for Homer's daughter Katherine, b. 1920, who has also been lost to us.
