Adopting from Russell Rescue...

WHY DO WE NEED A RUSSELL RESCUE AND WHAT KIND OF HOME IS SUITABLE FOR A JACK RUSSELL TERRIER?

The majority of the dogs that end up in the Russell Rescue are unwanted simply for being Jack Russells by nature and behavior. Owners often find that they were unprepared for the energy level of this feisty terrier, did not understand the nature of the breed and their instinctive desire to hunt. They are NOT like Wishbone or the Frazier dog as portrayed on TV.

1. All potential adopters MUST complete our online application. (Completing an application does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt a dog.)

2. Active homes with a fenced yard are preferred.

JRT's require LOTS of exercise as a rule. Consider your typical day and how a JRT would fit into it.

Are you willing to walk the dog several times a day? Do you want a dog to play fetch, do agility, do obedience? Terrier trials? Do you want a running companion? Then a JRT could fit nicely into your life.

Do you need to crate the dog all day or keep him in a kennel or tie him out? Do you live in an apartment where noise might be a consideration? You might want to get a different breed. JRT's become very hyper-active with inadequate exercise and many are "born to bark". They demand attention and can become very unhappy and destructive if left to their own devices.

3.Generally, we will not adopt to homes with children under 6 yrs old.

4. Usually we will not adopt to homes with cats. Very rarely do we get a terrier into rescue that is good with cats.

5. Same gender adoptions are not recommended. If you have a female dog you should request a male JRT, etc.

If you think you have a proper home for one of the dogs, please visit the link: Russell Rescue, Inc. Be sure to run the Online Profiler, read Bad Dog Talk and fill out the online adoption application.

FOSTER HOMES are our greatest need. If you love JRT's but perhaps don't wish to adopt, being a foster home is a good way to get your JRT "fix". Without adequate foster homes, many dogs must be denied entry into Russell Rescue. Complete our foster application found in the links section.
