In The Nightshade’s Shadow

Seldarine Elemental

Quickly, must go quickly! Run run run runrunrunrun!!! Her thoughts were screaming at her to go quicker, her muscles were tensing and she was breathing heavily. WHY? Why did I do this? Why did I agree to this??? Those were her only thoughts as she ran further. Because you love me! This is a fun game and you need the exercise! She heard the laughing voice in her head and she smiled. But of course, how could I NOT love you, Elle’Runya! She continued to run like all hell was after her. Suddenly she stopped and stood still, sniffing the air and straining her ears until she heard a light splash of water and caught the sent of a wolf. Streaking in the direction of the noise she stops behind a tree, staying downwind the entire time.
Jumping up into the tree and balancing like a squirrel on the branches she peers through the foliage. Looking out she sees a beautiful lake and standing ankle deep in the water was a gorgeous black wolf. An alpha female, large and muscular, absolutely beautiful. Grinning to herself she creeps out of those branches into the branches of the next tree, not making a single sound. She continues through the trees until she is almost directly over the wolf, smiling evilly she started to make squirrel sounds.
The wolf turns her head in the direction of the sounds but shrugs and goes back to the water. Staring deeply into the water…nose in, nose out, LUNGE! The head comes up with a fish in her powerful jaws. Suddenly the wolf flings the fish onto the bank and goes back to watching, suddenly a paw shoots in and scoops out another fish onto the bank.
Suddenly she, still making squirrel sounds, flings herself into the lake. She hardly makes a ripple when she enters the water. Swimming like a dolphin she comes up behind the wolf and jumps out and tosses her arms around the wolfs’ neck and rolls over dragging the wolf into the water with her.
Laughing, she comes up and smiles at the shocked wolf. The wolf is bristling and shaking her fur out glaring. The wolf points her nose toward the bank and whimpers. She just nods and grins laughing and tosses her arms around the wolf again in a hug. The wolf laughingly puts a cold wet nose in her ear. She flinches and laughs, and her and the wolf slowly walk up to the bank.
You are getting better at finding me…and I hope I’m getting better at fishing. Did I catch enough for tonight? Asked the wolf tilting her head once they were on the bank.
Laughing she replies, You caught enough to feed a complete human household for one week! Wonderful! I hope Dad is happy with this catch…though he may be distraught by us being wet…

You are odd, Alta’Runya. I have never known an elof like you. While lle may be my Tura, you are still the runya of life…the seldarine will love you!
Replied the wolf.
Please, don’t remind me of the seldarine. They will find me one day, and make me one of them…I do not believe myself ready for that. I will run and live with humans if I must! She said viciously.
The wolf just looked at her oddly, but said nothing. She could fell the unease growing within herself and the wolf, but she could not place why it was there. Perhaps now, I should tell you the beginning of all this.

Young, carefree, and odd, that was how young Felidae BlackWolf was described. She had no friends because she could do things they could not. They knew she was special when she spoke all languages, befriended the fiercest of animals, and controlled things, elements. When Felidae was born the animals gathered around her and would let no one come close to her, except to feed her. The birds built a nest for her in the treetops where she would be safe on summer nights, the wolves and foxes built a den for cold winter nights to keep her warm. The other animals watched her and taught her how to do many things. Finally, they let her go to live in a cave-home with her parents. They still watched and were highly over-protective, they still taught her, and her parents called her “Elle’Runya” or “Little Flame” until she was in her tenth year of age. Then they called her “Alta’Runya” or “Big Flame” for she was larger now, and she did burn bright with an inner flame.
The animals knew her by different names, but most common was Feli, short for Felidae BlackWolf as the cats and wolves claimed her as kin. The snakes claimed her as Loki; cats claimed her Cath; the wolves, Draug; birds, Dunila, and so on for all animals.

Her parents were highly distraught at the thought of their daughter growing up as an animal, but the animals snapped if they came to close. Once, Feli’s father came too close to the snake watching Loki and he got bitten, he was only saved because of Feli’s incredible powers. She went over grabbed his hand and sliced the two puncture wounds, sucked and spit out the venom, stitched up the slits, and soaked his hand in special herbal water she had the animals make. The gophers gathered the herbs she needed, the birds grabbed baskets and gathered water, while the chimp (yes she had a chimp there for some odd reason) stirred the fire and put a hot pan on it. The birds came back, added the water to the pan until it boiled, the gophers added the herbs, and then the snake added three drops of venom. They then removed it and let the herbs seep. The birds added a little more water to cool it, and in the hand went.
Feli’s parents were in absolute marvel at the animals doing this, and her knowing how to take care of it. When her father went to sleep that night his hand was fully cured. No venom left at all. Feli herself curled up in a bed in the corner where she had chosen to sleep. The bed was made of the softest furs; the wolves and other predators brought these to her from their kills. In he furs she had sewn together were the downy feathers of the birds chicks. Her pillow was of soft silk the silk worms had given her and filled with downy feather. The result was a wonderful soft and almost satiny feel as well. Her blanket was made of the same material as her pillow; she hardly ever used the pillow though. She preferred to curl up and have the animals lay around her. Now she was curled up in her comfortable bed with a wolf as her pillow and the pups lying in the nook created by her stomach.
Her parents used to worry about the animals turning on her, but they would never do that. Her parents slept in a crude cot made of walnut and maple wood, lined with the roughest of furs from the animals they had killed. They slept with a rolled up fur as a pillow, and only a deerskin over them to keep them warm. No shelves were above them, but the selves Feli had above her were packed. Birds twitted, as squirrels chatted, but once she lay down they all did, and thus it became quite with half the cave full of animals. Bears were at the entrance of the cave keeping watch.
Also, Feli was gifted in tongues. She could speak any language without realizing it. That was how she conversed so well with animals and outsiders. She was the translator for anyone who wished to speak with the clan. She had other odd powers that she does not yet know about. She is agile, and she can do anything, swim, climb, and almost fly. Here is where I believe the story should truly begin.

Chapter 1; A New Skill!

“Feli, sweetheart, come here.” Called her mother. Feli obediently walked over to her mother. “Dear, the seldarine have asked that you go on a trip. They wish that you learn several skills before you decide to join them” “Mother that could take thousands of years! What do they expect me to learn in that time? How to walk the earth and fall off?” cried out Feli.
“Now Felidae! They ask that you do this so please follow orders for once!” her mother started to raise her voice. The wolf nearby growled warningly.
“Fine, I’ll go, Mother” With that Felidae stalked away sulking. Once she was outside she sighed and looked at the wolf. The wolf tilted her head and Feli sighed again. She really didn’t want to join the seldarine, they wouldn’t understand though. It was suppose to be an honor to be asked to join the elven gods. She wanted to stay here, with her animals… but no one seemed to understand that. She started to walk among the woods, the animals gathered around her. They could tell she was sad and upset about something, the wolf said nothing. Finally, she stopped and sat at the edge of the lake. The wolf curled up next to her, the others sat around her, and some on her. She looked around to each of them.
“I’ll be leaving. The seldarine have sent me to go traveling. Though what I will learn I know not. I can only travel with a few of you. I’ll be so very sad without you, I don’t want to leave! Why do they have to send me away?” None of the animals said anything, they were becoming sad at the thought without her. She grabbed onto on of the squirrels sitting upon her, and held him close. Silently she set him down, and spoke softly to each of them in turn. Giving each of them a hug, she silently got up and started to walk away.
“I’ll be leaving in the morning, tonight I will pack. Most of you may only follow me to the edge of the woods, no farther, those who can go further will know. Tonight I wish to be with each of you.” Tears were slowly falling from her cheeks, she wasn’t talking any different, other than her voice was rather thicker. She walked back to her home, her cave. Silently rolling up the furs around the pillow and tying them together. She gathered her possessions, wrapping them in furs as well. She took her largest bag, and put each of her possessions into it, soon everything she owned was pack and ready. Suddenly a bear walked up, handing her another fur. She looked at this with tears in her eyes. It was perfectly tanned, and was actually several furs in one. She looked about, and saw that each animal had given a piece of fur. A white wolf then walked in, leading a snowy, gleaming white unicorn. Felidae gasped at the sight.
“Nim’Roch, she asks you to call her Nimaria, though. She wishes to carry you throughout your travels. This fur, shall be your saddle, so you can never forget any of us. Nimaria has no fear of any, and she will never leave you on your travels.” Spoke the white wolf. Felidae started to cry again, she hugged the white wolf, and the beautiful unicorn.
“Thank you! You have no idea what this means to me. I’ll never forget any of you, or any of your deeds! If I choose to join the seldarine, I will always be there for you, and you will become my creatures. I love you always, and I will return to you.” She spoke gently.
