Role Play Gaming is the art of portraying a fantasy character. Role playing gives you the chance to escape your worries and venture off into another world as whoever or whatever you want to be within a specific story line. With emphasis on the "whoever" or "whatever" you want to be. In RPG there are practically no limits to doing whatever you want to do whenever you want to do it. But there are rules in the game depending on what game you are in, what story line is portrayed, the time line, and whatever laws are set by the highest ranking players.
Most Games are set in gothic times (Knights, Dragons, Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, Vampires, Mages: swords & shields, bows & arrows, crossbows, etc.) and each comes with its own history. The King, Queen, Lord, Lady... whatever you want to call the highest ranking in the game usually has the final say so about everything (Normally, the reason these people hold such a Title is because they were the ones to start the game or the clan, or given that Title by a higher ranking player). It is almost impossible for someone just starting in a game to be any more powerful than the lowest ranking players. A game can not be played correctly without the participation of everyone who holds a part in it. For example, when playing in a main area where other players are, where new players come into existance, its not good to stray away from the story line, talk out of character, or involve real life personal matters. Everyone should be comfortable providing each other the right state of mind. In other words, what ever you do is what your character is doing. It is not hard to destroy your character or destroy the setting for others. Before entering a game you should be prepared. Learn the history (past and present) of the game. Be ready to answer any questions one might have for you, as in your looks, personality, your characters history, age, race, profession, and your goals. It is wise for new players to write down everything anyone else might need to know about him/her (character sheet) and put them to memory. It is easy to forget these things which are vital to upholding and presenting your character. Once you understand the basics of role playing, the setting of the game you wish to join, and your personal information, you're ready to begin playing. Always keep in mind what is expected of you from the game and its players and you won't have any problems. Role playing is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.
