PANORAMA TUTORIAL

By Linda C

I did not write the original Panorama Tutorial. It was written by a very talented person named Dojean and you can find her tutorial at this site:

DOJEAN

I felt that the tutorial was written for those with a better undertanding of Image Magick but a little difficult to understand for those that are just getting familiar with Image Magick so decided to rewrite it in hopes that it will be easier to understand for those with less experience.

I want to thank Farmer Dave and LoLo for all their input and help with this rewrite. The information they gave me really helped bring this together for me.

You don't have to make a separate directory for your Pano images, but I did, simply because it's easier and quicker for me to locate my images.

Before we begin I would like to explain something to you regarding the resizing information provided below. I found out that if you put an ! after your dimensions when you are resizing it will force that dimension to the exact size. However, sometimes this will cause your images to distort. If you leave the ! off the dimensions, they will still resize but they will resize naturally according to their proportions. I have provided you with the instructions to both ways of resizing; you can decided which one you want to use.

If you have a printer, I would suggest printing a copy of these instructions before you begin, it will make the process quicker and easier.

1. CC&P this JPG and take it to ImageMagick; erase the http in the box and paste the image url in the box. Click on "View" (the image size should be 300x400 already). The size should show in your status box at the bottom of your screen.

2. At the top of the page you will see labeled tags; click on the one that says "Decorate". Erase the number in the box and put in 9x9 and erase the color in the color box. Then scroll down and check the box by "Frame" and then click on "Decorate" below it.

3. Click on "Decorate" at the top. Put 9x9 in box; in color box put #D27B6A. Check the box by "Border", then click on "Decorate" below it.

4. Click on "Output" at top. Change to gif and click on "Output" below it.

5. When you see your image, click on it and cc&p the url. Transload it and name it Pano3.gif.

6. CC&P the url of Pano.3 and take it back to IM; paste it in the box and click on "View".

7. Click on "Resize" at the top and change the dimension to 300x350, you will end up with a different dimension in the status box at bottom of screen, that's okay, it resized it according to it's proportions. (If you want to force the 300x350 dimension add an ! after it like this 300x350!). Click on "Resize" below it.

8. Click on "Output at the top. Change it to a gif and click on "Output" below it.

9. Click on your image, cc&p the url and Transload it and name it Pano2.gif.

10. Take the url of Pano2.gif back to IM and click on "View".

11. Click on "Resize" at the top. Change dimensions to 250x300, you will end up with different dimensions as it resizes to it's proportions, that's okay. (If you want to force the dimesion to be 250x300 add ! after it like this 250x300!) and click "Resize" just below it.

12. Click on "Output" at top, change to gif and click on "Output" below it.

13. Click on your image, cc&p the url and Transload it and name it Pano1.gif.

14. CC&P this TRANSPARENT background and take it to IM and click on "View". This background is already resized to 600x450.

15. Click on "Composite" at the top. Get the url for Pano1.gif and put in the url. Change direction to NE and location +0+75 Scroll down make sure it is on "Over" and click on "Composite" just above it.

16. Click on "Transform" at the top. Check "Flop" box and click on "Transform" just below it. You should now see your background with your image on the left.

17. Click on "Composite" at the top. Leave the Pano1 url there and click on "Composite" just below it.

18. You should now see two images on the background, one on each side.

19. Click on "Composite" at the top. Scroll down to the box and just change the number in the url box from Pano1.gif to Pano2.gif. Make sure the direction is NE and the location is +75+50 and click on "Composite" just below it.

20. Click on "Transform" at the top. Click beside "Flop" and click on "Transform" button below it. You should now see three images on your background; two on the left and one on the right

21. Click on "Composite" at the top. Direction should be NE and location should be +75+50. Click on "Composite" just below it. The background should now show image over image on both sides.

22. Click on "Composite" at top. Change url to Pano3.gif and change direction to Center and location to +0+0, (if for some reason this doesn't place the center picture where you want it, play with the second number, increasing the number moves the picture down and decreasing the number moves it up, this way you can have the choice of where you would like that center picture, higher or lower) and click on "Composite" just below it. This should put your last one in the middle.

23. Click on "Resize" at the top. Change to 400x375 (your dimensions here will end up different but in proportion with the rest of pictures. (If you want to force the dimensions to be 400x375 then place an ! at the end of the dimension 400x375!) and click on "Resize" below it.

24. Click on "Transform" at the top. Then put a check by "Trim" and click on "Transform" below it.

25. Click on "Output" at top. Change to jpg not gif and click on "Output" just below it.

27. Click on your image, cc&p it and Transload it.

It should look like this.

PANORAMA

Once you have the Panorama that you want and have it transloaded, you might want to go ahead and delete Pano1,2, and 3 because they use up quite a bit of space in your directory.

I hope you enjoy this tutorial and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
