BATTALION LEVEL TACTICS
CS INSTRUCTIONAL DATABASE

Battlefield operations in the modern area are far different from what our ancestors faced, and as such, previous field manuals on tactical battallion level unit operations are incompatible.  First thing first.  This is not reccommended for higher than Brigade or lower than Company sized units.  Anything larger will get bogged down by micromanagement, anything smaller will be cut apart by being spread too thin.
The primary thing, is to recognise what type of unit you have.  If you are in command of a supply unit, serve the Empire faithfully and perform the job of a supply unit, do not hamper the Empire by deciding you wish the glory of combat, that may come all too soon.
We will break this down into six seperate sections.  Combat and Noncombat, broken down into Company, Battallion and Brigade levels.  Do not make the mistake many new commanders have made, a company is not just a large platoon, a battallion is not a larger company, and a brigade is not a mob of troops.
Troop sizes break down like this for maximum, nonreenforced units.
Element-1 troops, be it a vehicle, a soldier, or a power armor soldier
  Squad-10 troops, 5 power armors, 2 vehicles
  Section-20 troops, 3 power armors, 3 vehicles
Platoon-40 men, 20 power armors or 5 vehicles
Company-160 men, 100 power armors, or 25 vehicles
Battallion-640 troops, 425 power armors, or 110 vehicles
Brigade-2540 troops, 1700 power armors, or 500 vehicles
This is a necessary document to observe, an examples of Brigade TO&E.

COMBAT TROOPS
Combat troops are just that, soldiers and equipment trained and designed for warfare.  Not multiple roles involving everything from support to refugee relief.  Do not task your soldiers to perform duties outside of their training and expertise, that can lead to casualties and a loss of morale and effectiveness when the time for battle comes.
Be prepared for what happens at large unit levels.  Death.  Soldiers die in war, it is a fact of life, be prepared for it, accept it, but try to aviod it with reasonable planning.  Recon forces will get wiped out, platoons will be overrun, soldiers will die in accidents or fratricide, and despite medical technology, troops can die of disease or minor injuries.
COMPANY LEVEL-Company sized units, be it 150 infantry troops and their commanders or 100 power armor troopers, are still a force to reconed with.  Upper command (Regimental or higher) should have nominally chosen your deployment area, leaving you a bit of room to maneuver and decide.
