My name is Russ Kauffroath, aka Sifu DangeRuss. I have been a student of the martial arts for over 40 years. My training began in Huntington Beach, California, where I took a class in Judo at the local Boys Club. I soon joined the Fountain Valley Sam Pai Kenpo Studio under Grandmaster Joseph Leon Dimmick. I was awarded the rank of black belt by Darwin Jones in 1977. In 1978, I relocated to Washington State and started training in Animal Fighting Systems Gun-fu with Grandmaster Isidro Archibeque, who has awarded me the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt. I have also studied White Lotus Sword, Modern Arnis, Combat Arnis, Largo Mano Abaniko & Balintawak Arnis and have Co-developed Sam Pai Kenpo Kali with Guro Damien Romero. My private school has operated in Bremerton, WA since 1978.
What do we teach at DangeRuss Martial Arts? We practice Kenpo Karate and Sam Pai Kali Kenpo. What exactly is kenpo? Kenpo is a martial art characterized by the use of multiple quick strikes in rapid succession. The multitude of fast strikes has a dual purpose, perhaps overwhelming an opponent, while attempting to ensure that as many strikes as possible effectively hit their targets, each movement setting up the next. We utilize punches, kicks, knees, elbows and finger techniques, as well as takedowns, locks, controls and submissions to effectively take control of the situation and our opponent. Kenpo does not rely on any single strike to subdue our opponent, we win through attrition. This increases the effectiveness of our techniques without having to rely on superior size or power. We make use of both linear and circular movements, so you will see elements of both hard and soft styles within our art. Although the primary system I teach is Sam Pai Kenpo, I have incorporated aspects of all of these styles into what I now teach. Not so much changing the integrity of the original art, but enriching the flavor by simply adding some seasoning. What type of seasoning ? (Very spicey of course) We practice the traditional Sam Pai Kenpo Techniques, but utilize the greater focus on targeting nerve centesr and pressure points to increase the effectiveness. We also take most techniques all the way to the ground, or to a conclusive finish. The addition of the Filipino Arnis added dramatically to the understanding of fighting with, or against an armed assailant. An understanding of grappling is key once the fight hits the ground, so we've incorporated locks, controls and submissions from Jujitsu and Kali. In this day and age, it seems only logical to take advantage of everything at your disposal.
What if I simply want to test my skills against others? While tournaments are not everyone's thing, The DangeRuss Martial Arts Team is well known in the NW Tournament circuit. If competition is your thing, we can take your sparring or forms to the next level. Our history of Champions speaks for itself.
Perhaps what you want is to get back into shape or improve the shape you're in? In today's modern world, too many folks exercise their fingers on their cellphones, playing video games or simply watching others participate in physical activities. The benefits of regular physical workouts, increasing cardio, flexibility, strength will make you feel better than ever.
Mental stimulation? You bet. Our diverse curriculum will challenge your mind, expand your memory and increase your focus and concentration.
Self Confidence? Practicing martial arts, will not only hone your body and mind, but will build self confidence in dealing with uncomfortable life situations. Repetition and practice allows you to react instictively without thought when the need arises.

This method is known as the Incentive Method.
If you successfully fly, you don't get cracked by the three-sectional
