We all know this is based on Clinton's run for office, but that definitely doesn't mean you have to like Clinton to enjoy the movie. Because I hate Slick Willie, but I liked Primary Colors.
Henry Lester (Adrian Burton) leads us through the story of Gov. Jack Stanton's rise to Presidency. He's like the narrator of the story. I've never heard of this guy Burton, but he does a really good job. His emotional struggles are something we can all relate to. Especially the relationship he ends to join the campaign. The only problem I had is the lack of details in his new romance. I know it's not about Henry Lester, but still I want to know about him.
John Travolta is amazing. He couldn't have possibly have been any better. He's so funny and charming as Stanton. He dances badly (must've been hard for Travolta), he talks to the people, and he laughs with a belly of jelly. He flashes that "I'm so innocent" smile like Clinton does every day. It's such a slap in the face.
The movie is almost educational as it is entertaining. We learn the true goings on behind a Presidential campaign. It's almost, almost unreal.
I give Primary Colors a B-.
