Monty Python-Related Stuff

I made this list myself (boy aren't I tallented!). I got all my great information from The First 280 Years of Monty Python by Kim "Howard" Johnson except for the parts I added in myself. This is by far not a complete discograpy of their records, because, well I'm lazy and didn't feel like typing it all out. So check on the book, it's a great one, it has a complete discography. I attempted to color-code the movie part, rather than typing a complete synopsis of each movie and who they played. Well anyway, all in all, I think this is a pretty good list. I hope it's a good resource in your book-reading and movie-watching ventures.

MONTY PYTHON STUFF:

The Records

Monty Python’s Flying Circus (1970). Taken directly from the soundtrack of the show – Includes "Nudge Nudge" "Pet Shop" "Flying Sheep" "The North Minehead By-Election".

Another Monty Python Record (1972). Packaged as "Beethoven Symphony #2 in D Major". Rerecorded versions of TV sketches, including "Penguin on the Telly" "Spanish Inquisition" "World Forum" "Spam" and some different stuff.

Monty Python’s Previous Record (1972). Third series sketches and some new stuff including: "Argument Clinic" "Travel Agency" "Eric the Half-A-Bee" "Miss Annie Elk" "We Love the Yangtse".

The Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief (1973). First ever "three-sided" record in its first issue. Has sketches such as: "Pet Shop Conversions" "Boxing Tonight With Kenneth Clark" "Cheese Shop" "Tiger Club" "Oscar Wilde’s Party".

Monty Python Live at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (1974 – but no US release??). "Four Yorkshiremen" "Bruces" "Idiot Song" "Gumby Flower Arranging" "Communist Quiz" "Lumberjack Song".

The Album of the Soundtrack of the Trailer of the Film of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). Includes some film-related linking material that was not in the film, as well as most of the film in audio.

Monty Python Live at City Center (1976 – US only). Almost exactly the same as Live at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. A best-of sort of live album with many popular sketches.

The Monty Python Instant Record Collection (1977 – different US and UK versions). Folded out to a cardboard box resembling a large stack of record albums. A "greatest hits" album, including: "Alistair Cookie" "Australian Table Wines" "Eric the Half-A-Bee" "Word Association" "How to Do It" "Summarized Proust Competition" "French Taunter".

US version has many differences: "Lumberjack Song" "Bring Out Your Dead" "Argument Clinic" "Crunchy frog" "Cheese Shop" "Sit on My Face" "Blackmail" "World Forum". Okay – they’re almost completely different, wouldn’t you say? That’s stupid.

Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979). Excerpts from the film with linking material by Eric Idle and Graham Chapman.

Monty Python’s Contractual Obligation Album (1980). Released – you guessed it – because they had a contract. More than half of these are songs, and all are new except "String" and "Bookshop". Includes: "Bells" "Traffic Lights" "Here Comes Another One" "Decomposing Composers" "Crocodile" "Finland" "Bishop".

Monty Python’s the Meaning of Life (1983). The film with some linking stuff.

Monty Python’s the Final Ripoff (1987). Their first double-record set, it has all been on previous records – a greatest hits, of course. Some new linking stuff by Michael Palin. A very good album, but you have it, so I needn’t say what’s on it.

Monty Python Sings (1989). All of the best songs (excl. "Sgt. Duckie’s Song) and even some from before Python. Songs from the movies, too. Includes: "Galaxy Song" "Henry Kissinger" "Medical Love Song" "I’m So Worried" "Brian Song" "Not the Noel Coward Song" "Sit on My Face".

The Instant Monty Python CD Collection (1994). Would be awesome to have as it comes with a 40-pg booklet and 6 of their CDs – like a boxed set you know.

Monty Python’s Big Red Book (1971). Material relating to the series, like "How to Walk Silly" and the "Whizzo Chocolate Assortment". Very cool.
