Sue has a doctorate in something. I think it has something to do with communication. But, I have always avoided asking her, really. Mostly because I know her as a musician and I like her that way. Besides, if I think about it too long, I might intimidate myself. Sue is also one of Victory Music's favorite open mic emcees. She's cute, witty and has a sexy radio voice to boot.
Sue booked my first gig in the early part of 1999 at the Shakabrah Java, a coffee house in Tacoma. Erin Gullaksen also performed at that gig. Tamarah on the flute, as well. I was so thankful that Erin was there and shared some of her songs with us that night, one being a song she had finished writing earlier that day. I messed up alot during the first set, and Erin gave me words of comfort and focus which helped me finish off the night. No other gig will ever match that first one--the uncertainty, the excitement, the stagefright, the joy that I had stopped talking about doing it and had finally DONE it! It was a wonderful and terrible experience for me all wrapped into one. But, it was that one gig that made all the other gigs fall into place. And, I have Sue to thank for all that.
Sue Tjardes (vocals, guitar,
mandolin) is a member of "Late Harvest" which includes Don (vocals,
guitar and mandolin) and Audrey (bass guitar).
She also is one half of the Invisible Cowgirls, the other half being Liz
Savage (vocals, guitar). Sue is a songwriter
as well, and I am always wondering when her new solo CD is going to be
out. Her songs are very "catchy" with lyrics that invoke self-reflection
in the listener. She is a charming performer, too, and can put a
heckler to shame with her wit. Catch one of her gigs when you
can. Her performances are refreshing to the eyes and ears.
