elcome to the gardens. We have just moved from this garden on one and a half acres in southern Ontario. When we first bought this property in the country it was surrounded by tall spruce in the front and timothy fields in the back. A small grove of trees hid burdock and stinging nettles. Deadly nightshade rambled everywhere. Canada thistles, goldenrod, and asters provided the only fall colour. But we wanted a garden. So we dug in and after several false starts, lots of back breaking labour, and many, many, years, we created our little piece of heaven, lovingly and aptly named, "Thistledew".
lease
come with us and enjoy a guided tour. We will take you down the Garden
Path, through the arbour into the formal Sun
Garden where you sit awhile on the bent willow chair and view the garden.
Then over the stone path and into the grove past wildflowers and hostas.
On to the Pond.
Stop here and listen to frogs and watch butterflies landing on foxgloves.
Up the Stairs,
careful not to step on spring bulbs planted iamong the steps. Through the
arbour at the top and past the potting bench. The
Kitchen Garden awaits,
it's brick path lined with primroses. Next, the
Perennial Gardens.
Three large beds spread out on a gently sloping hillside provides
changing colours in all seasons. You pass the bright
Daylily Border and
then continue on to the
Round Garden
Here chairs and a table await
and you sip your choice of herbal tea from our herb garden. You sit in
the sun, but only for a while, then on to the shade of the
Grape Arbour.
An excellent view of the
Vegetable Garden awaits you. The ripe harvest
of tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and onions will provide an excellent supper
tonight. The tour is done and you exit past the bright annuals in
the Sun Garden, past the lush green hostas in the Grove, past the
cool Pond. Underfoot in the woodchip path you see
Fungus and toadstools
that look like homes for the fairies
who inhabit these Gardens.
Up the
Stairs and we say a reluctant goodbye.
If you enjoyed our tour please take time to
sign our guestbook. And if you have any questions regarding perennial
gardening, or garden plants, you can
ask here and I'll do my best to answer them, or maybe someone else
will help.
Thank you.
The Plant Pages all have links to Garden Notes. They give growing information on specific plants, most are perennials. They also have links to other pages.
We have included our Favorite Links Page so that you can enjoy a few of the things that we do.
Because the pages are heavy with graqhics they may load slowly at first. Please be patient. And if some pics don't fully load, please try hitting reload. That usually works for me. Thanks
Please visit and use the
chat, the forum, the question page,
and the postcard page.
I will be changing the pictures in the Postcard page regularily so keep
checking back for new pics.
