Fade Out
Nov. 1997
by Jim Fleming

Daylight is soft and grey
like Dawn's early glimmers
Turning greens to yellows
and fading reds to browns
Restless winds clatter and
scatter where yesterday
They rustled and fluttered
in whisp'ring foliage
Proud bright flowers now droop
in fading weariness
And leaves fallen to the
earth begin to return
Gathering clouds further
darken the weak, sad light
Autumn fades to Winter's shades
and falls into quiet slumber
The blinds are pulled on Nature's
livingroom as she settles in
Wrapped in a quilt of warming
decay, gathering strength for spring
