Cole Turner

When the Charmed Ones first met Cole Turner, it was not under the best of circumstances. A girl had been killed at the hands of a demon and Cole was the district attorney determined to learn the truth about what had happened. Cole Turner was originally sent by the Triad to kill The Charmed Ones. However, after several attempts on their lives, he found he was falling in love with the youngest sister, Phoebe Halliwell. Denouncing his demon half, Belthazor, he fought to supress it for the woman he loved. Unable to resist the temptation, Phoebe found she couldn't stay away from him for too long. But that all changed when Cole's old mentor, Raynor, returned to try and convert him back to the dark side. Helpless against the power Raynor had over him, Cole transformed into Belthazor and killed an innocent witch. Phoebe, having witnessed this horrible act, accused Cole of setting her up, convinced his feelings now meant nothing. But shortly after the incident, she reluctantly allows Cole to tell her the entire story, and how he was tricked into resorting back to his evil ways. He proves once again just how much he loves her, and the two find their way back to each other. Cole proposes to Phoebe down the road, only to be rejected. Because he asks her to marry him right after they are pummeled with demon goo, Phoebe insists that it was just a spur of the moment thing. But Cole is serious. This is the women he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He finally gets the chance he needs, when he is unwillingly stipped of his demonic powers, when an old foe seeks him out for crimes committed against her husband as Belthazor. Belthazor is vanquished, and Cole remains completely human. It takes him awhile to adjust to this, and for awhile he feels rather useless. And after nearly getting himself killed from a gunshot wound while possessed by a 1950's ghost, Phoebe finally agrees to marry him. He proposes to her for yet a third time, when he gives her, her Grams' old wedding ring. But the course of love does still not run smooth. The ring is cursed, and Phoebe turns into an old fashioned housewife. It's not until later, that he presents her with a beautiful ring he has invested in, with a great speech on how no matter what happens...he'll always love her. Yet, another turning point occurs in their rocky relationship. Upon trying to help The Charmed Ones defeat the Source, Cole absorbs the Source's powers as the Source is vanquished, thereby letting the evil roam inside of him, filling the void Belthazor left. Unaware of the changes in her soon-to-be husband, Phoebe goes through with the wedding, completely oblivious to the fact that the now evil Cole tricked her into a dark ceremony. When his identity is finally revealed, Phoebe surprisingly joins him, set to become his Queen of the Underwold. But when Cole morphs into Phoebe to kill an innocent, the game is over. Phoebe is forced to do what's right. Through tears and conflicted emotions, she vanquishes her true love, watching as he explodes into pieces and vanishes in their apartment. Cole still comes back, though. Cole makes an effort to contact her from beyond, hoping she will hear his cries. Stuck in a kind of purgatory, Phoebe hears them, and astral projects to the realm. But at last she no longer wishes to have anything to do with him. Leaving him there to who knows what, she goes back to the real world, determined to move on with her life. Defeated, Cole offers himself to the big beast of the in between, willing to give up his life, as he believes he now has nothing to live for. That's when he suddenly discovers he's accidentally acquired some powers. Exiting the realm through a portal, he finds a way out on his own. Cole is now back on earth in the land of the living, and he once again saves his beloved from the clutches of evil. Not willing to give up their love, or his new powers, he leaves her to ponder that and disappears for a while. But even death cannot keep him away. He is determined to make things right again. As time passes, Cole eventually gathers enough powers to free himself from the wasteland for good, and goes to get his wife back. Little does he know, she is already pressing for divorce. So after countless attempts of trying to win Phoebe back, Cole altered reality so that after Prue died, Piper and Phoebe never met Paige. In this alternate reality Cole and Phoebe were still together, but Phoebe still didn't love Cole. Unknowingly to Cole, Paige was unaffected by his spell and she reuinted with her sisters and they vanquished Cole once again, for good this time.
