Prue Halliwell
Prue Halliwell was the oldest of the Halliwell sisters, and was fiercely protective of her younger siblings. She often plays mom to Piper and Phoebe which tends to lead to clashes with her sisters, especially Pheebs. Her expectations of herself and others remain high and people sometimes feel they have to struggle to live up to Prue Halliwell's code. Once someone has failed Prue she is not quick to let them back into her life. This is best seen in her formerly estranged relationship with her father and her previously strained relationship with Phoebe. However, since she and her sisters started living together she has learned to be more tolerant and relaxed. While frequently consumed with work, Prue tries to take time out to spend with her sisters. This usually happens after a crisis when she is reminded of how fragile life can be and how dangerous their secret really is. When disaster strikes, it is especially hard on Prue since she thinks of herself as the protector. She is also seen as the strongest of the three, with the power of telekinesis and more recently astral projection. In the first episode Prue was working at a museum with her ex-fiance Roger, who just happened to be her boss. This was not a happy situation and Prue soon quit after he took credit for a good deal of her work. During this time, Phoebe returned home, broke and unemployed. It took Prue awhile to warm up to the idea of living with Phoebe, since she considered her to be totally irresponsible. Unfortunately for Phoebe, Prue had also been led to believe that the youngest Halliwell had been putting the moves on Roger before he and Prue had broken up. Prue eventually got over her anger though and she and Phoebe quickly grew to love each other once again. Prue was already close to her other sister, Piper, who she had been living with for the past six months. Upon learning that she was a witch, Prue was less than thrilled. But never the less she accepted it, and when the Halliwells were attacked by a warlock, she was the one who stepped forward to protect the other two. After they had vanquished that first warlock, Prue's life went through a major upheaval. She got a new job at an auction house named Bucklands, and rekindled her relationship with Andy Trudeau, an SF police inspector. During the first nine months after Prue discovered her powers, she and Andy had an on again, off again relationship. Andy was often suspicious of Prue's activities when her name kept popping up on many of his cases. Add to this the fact that she was actually suspected of murder at one point and then thought to be a murder victim herself, and one can see Andy's confusion. Eventually Prue revealed her secret to him and the two remained close friends. But one day, while coming to the sisters' aid, Andy was killed by a demon. It took Prue quite awhile to get over his death, and she was forced to come to terms with her power and the danger it brought to all who surrounded her. Several months later Prue met Jack, a cocky co-worker who was enthusiastically pursuing her. She and Jack went on a few dates and spent a good deal of time at the office together. A few weeks after she met him she was granted a new power, the power to astral project, leaving her body in one place while projecting herself into another. Jack never discovered her secret and their relationship ended when Prue was hit with a reality check. Piper almost died, and Prue began to see that life was too short and that she wasn't really happy where she was. She quickly dropped her job (and her man) and moved on to greener pastures. Greener pastures turned out to be a wild relationship with a convict named Bane. She first met him while posing as the hit woman who was supposed to kill Prue and her sisters upon Bane's orders. Bane was eventually arrested but escaped a few weeks later. At that point he kidnapped Prue in a desperate attempt to protect himself from an angry demon who wanted to off him. But instead of protecting him, Prue ended up falling for him. Their relationship only lasted a day and then Bane decided to turn himself in. Just after this, Prue secured a job as a photographer at 415 magazine. She ended up shooting pictures for several important stories and quickly earned the respect of her new colleagues. Her job at 415 would sadly be her last. As September of 2000 hit Prue and her sisters discovered that the Source, a demon high up on the food chain, was sending those on the lower end to kill them. This issue was soon put on a backburner though as she and Phoebe tried in vain to help Piper marry Leo. The marriage wasn't in the cards right then and Prue spent the weeks following trying to comfort poor Piper. Meanwhile Phoebe got more deeply involved with a district attorney named Cole who would later reveal himself to be the demon sent to kill them. Leo eventually returned to Piper and Prue began a few relationships of her own, never quite finding the right guy. Ever the protector though, Prue valiantly tried to help Piper again, when the middle Halliwell's high school reunion came up. At first this meant buoying Piper's self esteem. But after the girl was possessed by a demon, Prue was forced to kill her in order to save her, a moment that terrified both her and Phoebe. Life became harder for the entire family when Phoebe revealed that she hadn't killed Cole, her demonic boyfriend. Prue reacted with anger and it was only after a close brush with the dark side that she was able to understand Phoebe's motives. Things started to look brighter though when their father returned, saving Prue from a demon who had nearly taken her as a child. The family was reunited in full when Piper was finally able to wed Leo, with her grandmother presiding, her father walking her down the aisle and her mother looking on. This gave Prue the chance to see her mom again, which brought back feelings of anger and sadness about the woman's death. She eventually worked these out after meeting the Angel of Death and accepting what had happened. A few more demonic adventures followed before Prue was accidentally turned into a dog during a spell. This was luckily reversed after she tracked down the banshee she'd set out to find. Unfortunately this would be her last supernatural success. Prue's final attempt at helping an innocent led to a vanquishing that was captured on film and placed on the news for all the world to see. While Phoebe and Leo went into the underworld to track down Cole, Piper and Prue were besieged by reporters. A fellow witch burst into the house, leading an angry Prue to throw her out with her power. Tragically the disgruntled witch returned, shooting Piper. Prue raced to get her younger sister to the hospital but Piper died while holding her hand. Unable to handle what had happened, Prue threw out the army men who had come to investigate their powers then demanded that Leo and Phoebe get time turned back in order to save Piper. Time did reverse, just before Prue herself was shot by a solider. But sadly it was turned back to the beginning of the day when she and Piper had nearly been killed by a demon. They had only been saved because Leo had been there. And now without Leo, Prue's fate didn't look good. She was killed by Shax, the Source's assasin.
