1949 - Richmond, Virginia

Good Old Mud Pies!

Three Evidences That I'm Weird

1. I have never been licensed to drive a car
(sure, it's crippling, but think of the countless lives I've saved!)

2. I have no body piercings - not even my ears

(but I do have a wondrous collection of vintage clip-on earrings)

3. My only career has been as a fulltime homemaker
(hey, with seven children, who had time to work?!?)

"Happiness isn't something you experience;
it's something you remember."

- Oscar Levant
(27 Dec 1906 - 14 Aug 1972)

"If you can't annoy somebody with what you
write, I think there's little point in writing."

- Kingsley Amis
(16 Apr 1922 - 22 Oct 1995)

My Mottoes

1. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"

2. "Don't sweat the small stuff."

3. "Most things are small stuff."

4. "There is never any justification
for rudeness."

5. "Be pleasant if it kills you."

6. "Never slap a man.
If he's a gentleman,
you don't need to.
If he's not a gentleman,
you don't dare to."

7. "You can catch more flies
with honey than with vinegar."

8. "For the sake of posterity,
people should pay at least
as
much attention to the
selection of their mates as they do
to the breeding of their livestock."

9. "Never nag anyone.
It's generally ineffective,
and simply generates ill will."

10. "Treat others a little better than
you would like to be treated."

11. "Be nice to your children.
They are a precious gift.
Besides, how do you want them
to treat you when you are old?!?"
*

12. "Love often, love well, and
love unconditionally."

* "Just be good and kind to your children.  Not only are they the future of the world, they're the ones who can sign you into the home."

- Dennis Miller
(b. 3 Nov 1953)

(Added 02/26/04)

"The more you disapprove,
the more fun it is for me."

then you'll just have
to be a horrible warning."

"There is a wonderful mythical law
of nature that the three things we
crave most in life - happiness, freedom
and peace of mind - are always attained
by giving them to someone else."

- Peyton Conway March

My Favorite Scripture

(At this moment in time, of course!)

"Delight thyself also in the Lord;
and he shall give thee
the desires of thine heart."
~ Psalm 37:4

In Isaiah 58:13, "Delighting thyself
in the Lord" is defined as keeping
the Sabbath Day holy.

I must be pretty good at that;
I always seem to get what I want!

This is NOT the same thing as getting what you need! That is predicated on obedience
to an entirely different commandment.
I think I must need a little help in this area...

Another Favorite Scripture

"...I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."

- 1 Nephi 3: 7

I find this Book of Mormon scripture
extremely comforting.

My Newest Favorite Scriptures

- 06/19/03

"For I am God, and mine arm is not shortened; and I will show miracles, signs, and wonders, unto all those who believe  on my name."

- Doctrine and Covenants 35: 8

AND

"And he that believeth shall be
blest with signs following,
even as it is written."

- Doctrine and Covenants 68: 10

My Least Favorite Things

1. Ridicule
2. Conditional love
3. Feeling stupid or inadequate
4. Unpleasantness and confrontation
5. Blasphemous language
6. Vulgar language
7. Male bashing
8. The downfall of civilization as we know it

"The Worst Things:

To be in bed and sleep not,
To want for one who comes not,
To try and please and please not."

~ F(rancis) Scott (Key) Fitzgerald,
"Egyptian Proverb", quoted in "Note-Books"
(24 Sep 1896 - 21 Dec 1940)

"The consciousness of loving and
being loved brings a warmth
and richness to life that
nothing else can bring."

~ Oscar Wilde
(16 Oct 1854 - 30 Nov 1900)

"As we view the endless course ahead,
the glory and wonder on each succeeding peak seems to swallow up the shadows and sorrows in the valley below."

~ Bruce R. McConkie, April 1980

Ten Rules for Making Every Day a Great Day

By Dr. Joyce Brothers

  1. Think that good things will happen.
  2. Express gratitude to a loved one.
  3. Put your gripes away in a box.
  4. Be patient with an annoying person.
  5. Do something special for yourself.
  6. Reach out to someone who needs comfort.
  7. Focus deeply on each moment.
  8. Learn from a mistake.
  9. Look closely at a flower or tree you haven't noticed before.

        10. Smile!

~ Parade Magazine, October 15, 2000

"No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an unchartered land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit."

I have erased this line."

~ Oscar Levant

of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge."

~ Albert Einstein
(14 Mar 1879 - 18 Apr 1955)

"Never be discouraged!  If I were sunk in the lowest pit in Nova Scotia, with the Rocky Mountains piled on me, I would hang on, exercise faith, and keep up good courage, and I would come out on top!"

~ Joseph Smith
(23 Dec 1805 - 27 June 1844)

My Favorite Picture

"Save Me"

 Norman Rockwell, 1966
(3 Feb 1894 - 8 Nov 1978)

I had the joy of seeing this lithograph at a fabulous
Norman Rockwell exhibit right here in the
Fayetteville Museum of Art in June of 2002.
The little girl reminds me of myself.

My Favorite Joke

Q.  Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?

A.  Because he was dead.

You can tell this joke to 500 people,
and only 2 will laugh, but they'll
still be laughing two weeks from now.

My Second
Favorite Joke

Q.  What goes HA-HA-HA-HA-clunk?

A. A man laughing his head off.

Than that you should remember and be sad."

~ Christina Georgina Rossetti, "Remember"
(5 Dec 1830 - 29 Dec 1894)

"You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies,
that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand,

 This is NOT a Cluckmeat,
but it did happen
in my hometown
of Newport News, VA
in the Fall of 2000.

What Is A Cluckmeat?

I had an old friend I hadn't seen in 34
years ask me if my email address, cluckmeat@yahoo.com
,
was indicative of the fact that possibly
I was in the chicken business. :o)

Actually, it's a pet name my mother
called me when I was a little girl,
roughly translated as "goofbutton" or "nuthead" or "dopebrain"
(which she also used on occasion).
It was a fun, teasing nickname,
never used in a malicious way,
and you could feel the love
in her voice, as in,
"You are SUCH a cluckmeat!"

I like it!

The purpose of life is to grow and to share.
When you come to look back on all that you have done in life, you will get more satisfaction from the pleasure you have brought into other people's lives than you will from the times that you outdid and defeated them."

- Rabbi Harold Kushner

"With any major decision there are cautions and considerations to make, but once there has been illumination, beware the temptation to retreat from a good thing. If it was right when you prayed about it and trusted it and lived for it, it is right now. Don't give up when the pressure mounts. Certainly don't give in to that being who is bent on the destruction of your happiness. Face your doubts. Master your fears. 'Cast not away therefore your confidence.' (Hebrews 10: 35). Stay the course and see the beauty of life unfold for you."

- Jeffrey R. Holland, 2 Mar 1999

Oh! Carol

(Neil Sedaka)

Oh! Carol, I am but a fool,
Darling, I love you tho' you treat me cruel,
You hurt me and you made me cry,
But if you leave me, I will surely die.

Darling, there will never be another,
'Cause I love you so,
Don't ever leave me,
Say you'll never go.
I will always want you for my sweetheart
No matter what you do
Oh! Carol, I'm so in love with you.

Oh, Carol...
Darling..

* note --- the Smithsonian has said nothing of the sort, and most likely no one that has ever worked for the Smithsonian has even visited Metalliplasty's' Online Directory.
I don't think it likely that they would endorse it so favorably, but I am not above shameless tactics to fool...I mean persuade people into visiting my crappy site.
Obviously I don't want anyone to know about this false statement, that's why I made it so hard to read.
