Challenges – Episode 1

First Challenge – Worth a total of $60,000

Three-part challenge, Bill and Darwin (selected as leaders by the group at large) determine who will be involved with each one. They are to bet $40,000 on one part of the challenge, $20,000 on another part, and $0 on the remaining part (the players do not know how much was bet on each part until after all three stages have been completed).

Part One: Biathlon – bike/shoot Time given for completion: 30 Mins.

Three people are involved with this part of the challenge. We are shown that Darwin suggest Bob, Bribs and Rob (possibly due to editing, however, assume that Darwin was the main suggestor for this part). Bill apparently agrees, although he knows neither Bob nor Rob is the athletic type (previous conversation while packing bags) Darwin thinks they are (based purely on appearance). Each is to bike down the hill, get two arrows, bike up again and attempt to hit the bullseye. If they miss twice, they must bike down and try again.

Bob first:

Misses first shot, hits second.

Bribs second:

Also misses first shot, gets second

Rob third:

after puking, gets bullseye on first try.

Part one of challenge completed successfully!

Part 2: Pulse Tightrope Time given for completion: 1 hour

Four people are selected for this part (Al, Myra, Heather and Lisa). The women are selected because they seem to be the calmest. Each person is to climb the ladder and cross the tightrope, his or her heartbeat (pulse) staying below 130. If it rises above 130, they must stop and wait until the pace has descended. The final person to cross must walk both the lower AND upper ropes.

Heather first:

heart rate stayed amazingly steady (70/71)

Myra second:

No problems, also a low heart rate (74)

Lisa third:

once again, no problems

Al fourth:

volunteered for the last position, knowing he had a high heart rate. He had to stop and rest at least four times to get his heart rate down. Ate up A LOT of time. He barely makes it, but completes the challenge.

Part two of challenge completed successfully!

Part 3: Swing of Life (or death) No time given for completion

The remaining five players participate in this challenge. They are attached to a 100-foot long rope, jump from a bridge, and swing. Each one must complete this or this part of the challenge is lost.

Ali first:

Seemed a little nervous, but enjoyed it once she jumped

Katie second:

cries like a baby.

Dorothy third:

didn’t want to let the team down

Patrick fourth:

seemed to enjoy it TOO much ;-)

Elavia fifth:

volunteered to go last. Anderson approached her with an offer for an exemption if she didn’t jump (meaning part 3 failed). She chose the exemption over a jump possibly worth $40,000.

Part three of challenged failed!

Bill and Darwin wagered:

Biathlon: $40,000

Tightrope: $20,000

Swing of Life: $ 0

Total earned: $60,000 out of a possible $60,000

Second Challenge – Worth a total of $40,000

A test of knowledge

After several hours of "getting to know you" time, the players are led to a site with a huge fire pit and a crane that has (what appears to be) the player’s luggage dangling from it. They are to select the four players they think know the most about the others (questions based on responses given in player’s applications). Katie, Ali, Patrick, and Dorothy are chosen. If they miss one question, the money is lost. If they miss four, the bags will be incinerated.

Ali first:

Who wants to normalize relations with Cuba?
Ali’s Answer: Darwin Correct Answer: Patrick
Money lost!

Dorothy second:

Who has a big ego internally but is modest outwardly?
Dorothy’s answer: Bribs Correct Answer: Rob

Kate third:

whose favorite drinks are Sam Adams Lager and Wine?
Katie’s answer: Bob Correct Answer: Al

Patrick fourth:

Who dressed as Marge Simpson for Halloween?
Patrick’s answer: Lisa Correct Answer: Ali

Second Challenge Failed!! (Miserably)

Bye, bye bags!!

Total earned: $0 out of a possible $40,000
