Ron Dayne's got the numbers. He's got the rushing record. And he's got the votes. While that nice little hat trick earned the Wisconsin tailback the Heisman Trophy for 1999, the one thing that's missing is the belief he really is the best college football player in the land.

This time it's signed, sealed and delivered. Future Hall of Fame DE Reggie White turned in his retirement letter to GM Ron Wolf at the Packers' corporate offices. "He's officially retired. It's over. I think he's had it," Packers spokesman Lee Remmel said of White, who ended his 14-year NFL career with 16 sacks and Defensive Player of the Year honors last season. White admitted being "intrigued" by the team's hiring of Ray Rhodes, a longtime friend of White's. However, White, an ordained minister, told a Milwaukee TV station that he is doing "what I think the Lord wants me to do." On Wednesday, the Packers lost backup QB Doug Pederson, who signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
