Two Witches Interview

With Jyrli Witch By Gothgirl

Spring 1999

Black Monday Magazine

Hi Jyrki, Once again I want to thank you for doing this interview with me. I just wanted to expose my favorite gothic bands on my page and help them out with promotion.

As I said, no problem at all.

1)How and when did Two Witches Form?

Anne (nowadays of Lacrimosa) and I met 1987 and noticed we both liked this kind of music. I've been a "goth" since 1980 (except no-one called us as goth back then). We moved to live together and formed this band. Little by little we found more musician to play with and that's it.

Anne and I divorced 1993, and she moved to Switzerland and joined Lacrimosa.

2) Describe what your music sounds like for people who have not heard your music before?

It's pure, shameless gothic rock with a big touch of sex. And it's made for people who likes to party.

3)Who has influenced you with your music the most?

Life itself is the biggest incluence.

4) What has been the most successful thing the band has accomplished?

That this band still exist after 12 hard years. Ok, every record and concert has been very important and some of those have been quite successful too, like our fist trip to Sao Paulo/ Brazil 1997 (MTV was there, etc.) or two great concerts in Buenos Aires/ Argentina.

5)Where do you see Gothic music in general in the new millenium?

It depends of the area so much. I hope it goes more and more to gothic metal; like Type-O-Negative, Paradise Lost, Cradle Of Filth, Moonspell, Gothic Sex,... because there's much more people to keep the whole thing alive in that scene.

6)Are there certain themes that make up Two Witches Music?

Sex and passion.

7) How would you get more people to listen to Two Witches and Gothic music in general?

If people stop listening Top 40 and ask more and more gothic from DJs, magazines, television, radio stations,... I have seen it works. But it might be that most of the gothic people are just too lazy to do that and they want to listen Top 40 in their homes.

8) What has been the biggest Struggle for the band?

Huh, there's too many of those. There's some struggles inside the band every day.

9) What can we expect from Two Witches in the Future?

We are just finishing our new album, which should be out summer 1999. And of course, there's a lot of concerts and tours to come.

What has the band been doing since the last album?

Touring in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, England, Finland, Germany, Greece Holland and Spain. Filmed a few videoclips, released Talvenaika-MCD, changed line-ups circa one million times,...

10) What do you think about Vampirism since your other albums have Vampire titles and so on?

There's also a lot of other subjects in our songs. But when I was very young and saw a vampire film for the first time, I fell in love immediately. Those creatures are so attractive, so beautiful and mystic that I wanted to know more about it. For me, they aren't to be feared and nowadays I'm much deeper inside the whole thing. I'm nowadays more shifted to the mystical aspects; life without end, the power of seduction and all those sexual fetishism (the colour red, bloody kisses, blood itself, bites...). And of course I want to live forever!!

11) Add any final thoughts and Goth or your band here...

Keep the spirit high!!! Bites and Bloody Kisses!!!

All the best,

Jyrki
