Spring......2000!

It is Spring again! Since I was born in the Spring of 1999, I have come to think of Spring as the beginning of the year... It is a wonderful time for a beginning. The trees do a magic trick, and little bumps appear on their branches...then, in a few weeks, green leaves take their place. The leaves make the trees look so much prettier than when they just have bare branches, and if you look really closely, the leaves are not just one color, they are many, many colors of green. Everything looks so new and fresh in the Spring, because it is. New grass to run through and roll in, new flowers to sniff, and bite off to take to mom for a surprise, and new birds to watch, and bark at if I think they are getting too close to the house.
The birds do a funny thing in the Spring. I was too little to really notice last year, but this year, I've noticed them carrying small sticks, strings, and other things in their beaks when they fly through my yard. Mom tells me that they are building nests...some build nests in trees, and some build them in bird houses. We have a bird house in our yard... it's in the big apple tree, and I'm watching..... The apple tree would be a fine place for a home right now, because it has very pretty flowers all over it. They first looked very red, then in just a day or two, they opened up into the most beautiful pink apple blossoms I have ever seen! There are so many, that I can't see the tree anymore. Mom says that the blossoms will fall off, and then the baby apples will start to form. I remember the apples from last Summer... I used to play with the ones that fell off the tree, and they make really nice balls to chase in the grass. Of course, the REALLY nice thing about them is, is when I'm done playing with one, I just eat it up, and find another to play with!

The weather is much warmer in Spring too... I noticed right away, that when I go outside, my feet don't get cold at all now. This past Winter, there were sometimes that I would hold up one foot, then another trying to keep them warm. Snow and ice are not warm, and when you have to go outside to do certain things, it is important to do what you need to do, and then hurry back into the house again where it's nice and warm, and there's a nice chair to curl up in. I don't think I'll have to worry about keeping my feet warm now... it's nice outside...one thing I have noticed also, with the oncoming warm weather, is that mom and dad aren't so thrilled to have me be a lap dog. They tell me I'm just like having a big, brown, hairy space heater laying on their lap... I am not uncomfortable, and I find it hard to understand what the problem is...

I think I had better go and lay by the patio door now, and watch the apple tree. Those birds will need a supervisor if they start building nests!!
