Now this is a debated one. I guess it depends which fic catches you first. :) I've read fics that have successfully captured him as a golden griffin without being horribly cliché. Stag works too, sometimes. 

After reading Bliss' fic Harry Potter and the Power of Betrayal, I guess this works too.

The "midnight" unicorn was hunted because it was believed to bring death (much like the Grim). Even Voldie's slightly afraid at the very least. It's very powerful, and its golden horn is not only poison tipped, but it can also tame a variety of spells and curses (including Avada Kedavra).

I felt that Harry's animagus should be something unusual. Unicorns are generally thought of as a symbol of purity and goodness, so why not? Even if its black-colored counter-part is thought of as evil, anything with great potential for light also has great potential for darkness, ne? (That sounded horribly Star Wars-ish but oh well.)

If you've ever seen The Last Unicorn you might remember that when she was turned into a human, all that was left of her horn was a star-shaped mark on her forehead. I figure Harry's scar would pass, even if Bliss didn't merge the scar and the horn together. ^_^ In his Animagus form, Harry retains his green eyes and his scar is usually covered by his black mane.
He is the Last Midnight Unicorn... heheh...
