Introduction: Diagon Alley |
Onto today's lesson: After the closure of the magical world, many big changes came about. These changes took place on economic, social and political grounds. The upcoming lessons over the next several months will go into detail on Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, the different departments of the Ministry of Magic, ways of transportation, and finally wizarding communities around the world.
The next three lessons will be on Diagon Alley, todays will be an introduction and the next two will cover the shops and Gringotts. As everyone knows Diagon Alley can be accessed one of three ways, through apparation, the Leaky Cauldron, or floo powder. You can access Diagon Alley through the Leaky Cauldron by walking through the bar and out into a walled courtyard. Once in the courtyard you must tap the wall in the appropriate places. When finished with the correct combination a small hole will appear in the wall and become larger until an entrance to Diagon Alley is formed. Appartion is only allowed for wizards who are 18 and older and have passed the test, and those wizards with fireplaces use floo powder.

Life Behind Invisible Walls |
Surprisingly to many, the magical people went on and lived happily in their newly created world. Each section of the magical world created a Ministry of Magic. Their goal was to keep the muggles from ever again knowing about wizards and magic. Over time 12 committees were created, we will learn more about them in another lesson. The first elected head of the Ministry of Magic was Glen Riverboor, who ran the ministry until he died at the age of 198. Godric, Helga, Rowena, and Salazar continued to run Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; dividing people into houses (later named after themselves,) as they saw fit of skills they most admired. The businesses and pubs were now doing better than before. Since they were all in one place now, people found it convenient to make whole day trips to get their food and other supplies. These shopping centers soon became quite the social plazas, were people met regularly to visit with friends and family. The magical world was now a busy little place and were rarely bothered by the muggles. Though contact was still kept with the muggles for good relations, for the most part the two kinds kept to themselves.

Construction and Final Sealing of the Magical World |
After the Last Debate meeting, every witch and wizard, young and old worked together to finish the sealing off of their world. It was hard work and there were many things to be done. The first things to be sealed off were the residential areas, this area of closure was to be led by Sara Nightengale. She helped the magical folk each disguise their houses to look like an ordinary muggle homes on the outside. The next area of concern was centered around the schools. Hogwarts being the main concern of Glen Riverboor’s area, was built in a remote place, by the four greatest witches and wizards of the time: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Around the castle they placed charms and spells to ward of wandering muggles if they decided to come to close. They also disguised the castle to look like a broken down, abandoned house. The next and last area of concern laid around the shops and businesses of the magical folk. This area of closure was to be led by Glen Riverboor himself. As I said a few lessons ago, the shops and pubs were built in the center of major cities. Each had its own special entrance through a pub called the Leaky Cauldron. One such area still exists in London, called Diagon Alley. Others of these places still exist, but many of the names and locations have changed for convenience. The day finally came when the heads of each area of construction got together to make the final sealing of their world. They all sat around a great table and discussed their areas in detail, each making sure they had missed nothing. After many days of discussion the weary witches and wizards called everyone together. Glen Riverboor stood up and said, “The time has come to close off our world and with that an era of unforgettable time ends.” The leaders of each area looked out into the crowd of people, “We seal off our world from destruction and hate, each kind to his own, each fate to his fate. As we step forward to a new world today, let us remember the friendships we have made. Forgetting not what has happened and embracing the future. We seal off our world from destruction and hate, each kind to his own, each fate to his fate” With that the magical people vanished from the muggle world, and were forgotten from time. Today they are only remembered in legends and child’s stories.

Lesson Nine
As the plans were made to close of the magical world forever, several people stepped forward with their opinions. Many of which agreed with how the plans were going. Others thought that they shouldn’t have to hide themselves, especially when they were more powerful than the muggle people. Fights started breaking out all over the wizardry world over whether they should remain hidden as planned, or take back what was theirs. Families and whole neighborhoods were torn apart. Finally, a meeting was called to solve this problem. Glen Riverboor the wisest wizard of his time, was called upon to run the meeting. Glen knew that there time was running short, and it tore his heart to see so many witches and wizards fighting. He sent out owls to magical folk around the country informing them of the time and place of the meeting. Papers said it was to be an historical event; even greater than the Battle of Knowledge. This meeting later was to be called the Last Debate. On the day of the meeting, there wasn’t a man, woman or child who didn’t attend. As Glen walked to the middle of the floor, he looked around to see the faces of people he has known and had come to know his whole life. Standing there, he spoke these words: “We have come far and wide today to decide the fate of our kind. Living inside invisible walls will be tough, but it is something we must do. We cannot let our children and their children be subjected to total war the rest of their lives. If that be the case, not one them of will live to see the end of our days. It is with great sadness in my heart that I must recommend the closing of our world to all people. Yes, the muggles have taken what is rightly ours, but we will let them have it, recognizing that we are better than them, and in time our two kinds will once again become friends!!!” Cheers went up throughout the crowds of people. Families and neighbors who had not spoken in months turned to embrace each other, each knowing they had to face a difficult task ahead, and that no matter what, they were not alone.

Lesonon Eight
As I left off in the last lesson, the Magical World was now preparing to seal themselves off from the muggle world forever, therefore sparing both sides anymore tragic losses. However, sealing off the Magical World was more complicated that anyone had imagined. There were many things that had been over-looked in the initial stages of planning. This section of our course will be split into four lessons. The first lesson will be on the Planning Stage of the Closure, the second on the Debate Stage, the third will be on the Construction and Final Sealing of the Magical World, and finally the forth will be on Life Behind Invisible Walls. Meeting upon meeting of witches and wizards around the world were taking place. Each person had his or her own idea of how things should be set up. The basic plan was that the witches and wizards would live in their same homes, whether in muggle or wizarding neighborhoods. However, they would magically disguise their houses so they would look like muggle homes from the outside. As far as their shops and pubs were concerned, a center was made it each major city containing their different shops and places to eat. This shopping plaza was only accessible by magical folk, either though floo powder, apparation, or through a special entrance in a pub called The Leaky Cauldron. Then the concern came for the education of the young witches and wizards. It was decided to construct schools in the abandoned areas of the muggle world were the children would be taught. The schools and shopping plazas were protected by spells and charms that warded away muggles if they came near them. The planning of their new world was almost complete, but several people began doubting whether this was a good idea or not. That will be continued in next lesson.
