Senior
Larry Moon
Larry enters his senior year of wrestling after compliling 17 varsity wins a year
ago. Larry was a 3rd place finisher in the 2000 Section tournament, which earned
him a spot in the WPIAL individual championships. Larry also placed 4th at the
Freedom tournament in 2000. As Freedom's lone senior, Larry will be looked up
to for leadership this season. He will compete at 171 and 189 this year.
Juniors
Matt Hill
Matt Hill is one of the top wrestlers in the state,
and entering his jr. year with plenty of accolades.
As a sophomore, Matt was 30-6 with 17 falls. He
placed 2nd in the WPIAL, 1st at sections, 1st at
MAC, Conemaugh, and Freedom. He was 2nd at
Burgettstown. As a freshman, Matt was 28-11 with
15 falls, giving him a 58-17 career record. He was
a WPIAL runner up, a section champ, and placed
3rd at Burgettstown, Freedom, and South Fayette.
Matt will compete at 152 and 160 this season.
Donnie Fordyce
Donnie is a 2 year starter who missed the post
season last year with a shoulder injury. As a
sophomore, Donnie posted a 12-15 record with 5
falls. He was 17-13 as a freshman, giving him a
29-28 career record. He placed 6th at the
Freedom tournament last season, and 2nd at
South Fayette as a freshman. After wrestling at
103 and 112 the past 2 seasons, Donnie hit a
growth spurt this year, and will compete at 135
and 140.
Shane Mihalko
Shane is a 2 year starter, as he returns as one of
the WPIAL's top heavyweights. As a sophomore,
Shane set a school record for 10th graders with a
31-7 record, with 14 falls. He was 3rd in the WPIAL,
and won the Sectional, Freedom, MAC, and
Conemaugh Tournaments. He placed 2nd at
Burgettstown. As a freshman, he was 15-11 with
11 falls. He placed 4th at sections and 3rd at
Freedom. He will be one of the best big men in
the state this year.
Steve Palak
Steve is in his 3rd season on the varsity, and is
a returning leterman. After wrestling only JV as
a freshman, Steve contributed in a reserve role
on last year's WPIAL runner up team. He posted
a 3-3 varsity record. Steve's experience will be a
plus in the middle weights this season, where
several key spots are open because of graduation
losses. Steve will fill various weights from 135 to
152 this year.
Bob Roche
Bob is a returning letterman, who played an
important role on last year's team. Despite winning
only 1 match last year, Bob's strength and
dedication will be a bonus to this year's team.
He backed up several key wrestler's last year,
most of whom have graduated. Bob will start this
year at 145 and 152.
Josh Roush
Josh is a returning starter, and has lettered the
past 2 seasons. After a 9-7 freshman season,
Josh was 11-14 last year. He placed 2nd at
the Freedom tournament and 4th at the
Conemaugh tourney. Josh is one of the most
dedicated wrestlers on this year's team, and the
coaches will look for him to lead by example. He
will wrestler from 125 to 135 this season.
Nick Brenckle
Nick is in his 2nd season of wrestling. He came
out for the team last year for the first time and
learned plenty about the sport. Nick saw most of
his action in JV's last year, but contributed with
a 1-1 varsity record. Nick will see time this year
at 171 and 189.
Sophomores
Nick Brown
Nick is a 2nd year wrestler, who saw mostly
JV action last year. He is a big, strong young
man, who should improve a great deal this year.
A broken wrist during the preseason, could set
him back a bit, but could fill a void toward the
end of the season. He will wrestle at 171 and
189 this year.
Brad Lehocky
Brad is one of the most promising returning
starters. Last season, as a freshman, he was
17-19 with 11 falls. He placed 3rd at sections,
and 6th at Freedom. Brad has plenty of
experience, and he will be one of the top wrestlers
in the WPIAL this year. He will start at 135 or 140
in 2000 - 2001.
Jeff Francis
Jeff is a returning starter, who competed at
103 last year. Jeff was 11-14, with 8 falls in
1999-2000. He placed 2nd at Freedom, and
4th at sections. His contribution at 103 was
one of the reasons the Bulldogs were the
WPIAL runner ups last year. He will move up
to 119 this season.
Rob Potts
Robbie has 2 years of experience, and after
filling a void due to an injury in the playoffs last
season, Robbie will be a starter at 112 this year.
He won 2 matches in 1999-2000 with 1 fall.
A talented multi sport athlete, Robbie should
make winning a usual occurrence this season.
Freshman
Kyle Baker
Kyle is one of 4 freshman on this year's squad.
He missed last season with an injury, but had
a successful 7th grade season 2 years ago.
Kyle has the potential to be a role player this
season, and may see time at 125 or 130.
Zac Bonzo
Zac had a solid Jr. High career, and now will
help contribute on the varsity. Zac will play
a key role in the middle weights, where many
coaches like to juggle their wrestlers. Zac
will provide Coach Rosa with many options
from 130-140 this season.
Kurt Brenner
Kurt will be one of the WPIAL's biggest
impact freshmen wrestlers this year. He is
coming off a stellar Jr. High career, and should
immediately become a force in the WPIAL.
He will start at 160 this season, and should flirt
with the 20-25 win total.
Joe Rosenberger
Joey is a little guy with a whole lot of
energy. He was dominate in the lower
weights in Jr. High, and the 103 weight class
should provide many welcomed challenges
this season. He could be one of the sections
best this year.
