King and Smith patented an improved washer cutter. Patented Oct. 24, 1865, #50,600. Patented by Otis A. Smith and Charles A. King of Middletown, CT. Made by King & Smith, Johnson & Smith and Otis A. Smith. The information on the Globe Card states that Globe Manufacturing Co. made this cutter. See patent papers below for more information on this cutter. The patent papers show a movable center pin. The cutter below has a fixed center pin. The last paragraph in the patent states it can have either a fixed or movable center pin.
Marked "KING & SMITH'S PAT. OCT. 24 1865. MFG BY SAVAGE & SMITH, MIDDLETOWN, CT."
The cutter below is the same except for the hole in the center. Also, it has a different mark. Rockfall ( a village of Middlefield) touches Middletown to the southwest. It is also on the Arrowmammett river. Middlefield was part of Middletown until 1866. Map location here
