Here are three pics from my boys' room. I found the wallpaper border for 79 cents a roll and when we were thinking of buying this house, all of a sudden I could see the painted pony spots, cowboy, Indian, etc. in my head, and knew I'd have to do it. The boys helped fill in the spots. They have a huge bunkbed we designed and built from white pine, so it's just like a bunkhouse! |
This is a wall in my kitchen. I fell in LOVE with this wallpaper two years earlier and when we bought this house, it went on clearance and I bought all they had! Later a friend used the same kind and ran out, and was sure glad I had some! I stencilled the fruit myself from a store-bought template.
This is a pic of our Family Room wall. It is a narrow room, and the only place to put the sofa was across from this gaping "window" into the kitchen, but from sitting down all we could see were ceiling and cupboards. So I livened up the view with stencils I cut myself to match things in the curtains (shown below)
This is a pic of my living room wall. I painted the lattice by masking off diagonal lines both directions with 2" tape, then "wove" it by painting the overlap lines with a striping brush. The weathered old grapevine was done freehand, then the grapes and leaves stenciled in place, and on the lampshades (not shown here). We have a porch swing in this room, facing this wall and hung with large hooks drilled through supports that cross the rafters. I can "rock" several of my "babies" at once!
Below are pictures of the mural in my 14-yr. old daughter's bedroom. We enclosed a breezeway to make this room, which is rather small (7'3 by 11' to the closet front), and has one wall and the ceiling of tongue-and-groove pine. She said she wanted the room to be just like camping in the jungle, and she had a set of Sandra Boynton sheets that I used as inspiration for the animals. The mural takes up the entire long wall (13 feet) and the end wall where the window is. I nick-named all the animals (though she insists they don't have names!) and let the younger brothers and sisters sponge on the leaves.

To the left you see a picture of the closet doors in Choreo Cottage, a small cottage on our property. We did the cottage in soothing shades of blue and green (necessary because of the green-tiled bathroom circa 1945), so we wanted a relaxing "by the sea" theme. Those big ugly brown closet doors really bugged me, so I painted them! The picture includes some Florida native plants, like sea oats, date palm, saw palmetto, and aloe. My parents, who stay here often, like lighthouses, so I had to include one.
This picture is not something I painted, it is something I made on the scroll saw out of a piece of bleached wood, but I thought I would include it. It is also in the bedroom of the cottage.
