The Hatchery

With a flash of light, you find yourself in a cool, dark room. The room appears to be empty except for large bowls filled with sand. Half buried in the sand are beautiful multi-colored eggs. Dragon eggs. You are about to reach out and touch one when you hear a shout from behind you. You whirl around to find a ragged girl staring back at you with fierce green eyes. Some of her face is hidden by runaway wisps of straggly sand-colored hair. Her clothing is torn, and dirt is streaked across her face.

Before you can ask her what her business is in the Dragonry, she answers your question, giving you the impression that she has telepathic powers. "I am Maluvan," she says in a commanding voice. "I work here. What's your excuse?" You stutter, not sure of what to say. Finally, you explain how you came to be here. "Hmph." is her reply. "Now why were you about to touch those eggs?" Once again, you are forced to remain silent. "I've worked very hard to stabilize those." You are about to defend yourself against this latest assault on your pride, but are suddenly knocked over by an unseen force. "Teller!" Maluvan exclaims. "Did our guest hurt you?" You sit up and examine Teller more closely. Your assailant is no more than a small black kitten, who is currently licking Maluvan feverishly.

"I didn't hurt anyone!" you exclaim, but Maluvan shoots you a look and cuddles Teller protectively. "Teller loves the dark," she explains. "She feels secure when she can't be seen. She's really quite friendly. Now if you'd like to adopt a dragon, I suggest you fill out an application. Here at the Dragonry we hatch golds, bronzes, blues, greens, browns, and the occasional (but very rare) purple. We don't segregate male and female candidates here. Any aspiring rider could get any color." You look at her with fascination. "I can adopt a dragon?" you whisper. Maluvan sighs. "Of course. It's part of our dragon repopulation project. There are so few of them around nowadays. Actually, I myself impressed a green at Jerdan Weyr. There she is. Come meet the visitor, Carelith!" A small green weyrling pokes its head out from behind a curtain, its small eyes staring into you with care.

Isn't she beautiful? She rushed to me as soon as she hatched..." You can clearly see that besides Teller, dragons are the only creatures Maluvan gets along with. At least her heart is in the right place. Your thoughts are interrupted by her rough voice. "Now do you want to apply or not? And whatever you do, be careful wandering around in dark places such as this all by yourself. You're just asking for trouble." Slightly nervous due to her last comment, you look down at the mystical dragon eggs.

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to a disappointing lack of candidates, we have been forced to change our adoption policy to continuous clutch. This means that your site will be judged as soon as it is entered. So instead of waiting for all candidate slots to be filled, you will simply receive a dragon based on the quality of your persona. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, and you can be polite, please email me. Otherwise, see the rules for setting up your persona. The form is on the rules page! That is to make sure you have actually read all of the rules. You can also apply by clicking on the large link below. And by the way, the Dragonry is breeding new dragons! These beautiful dragons are ready and waiting to be adopted! Sign up today. The smaller species are being adopted out in the courtyard as fire lizards. The fire lizards are click and take.
