interview with far gone light

1. how did far gone light start and what made you want to start it up? Far Gone Light started when me and James, two mutual friends decided to form a Celtic Black Metal band from the ashes of two previous Black Metal bands, one un-named and the other named Lughnassa. 2. what influences does your music have? Our influences range from slow Black Metal such as Summoning to Irish Folk bands like the Pogues and the Dubliners (though a lot less danceable than some of theirs, less jig and more slow air) but these influences have come together well, we also take inspiration from previous Celtic Metal bands like Cruachan, Waylander, Aes Dana and Heol Telwen. Doom Metal bands like Skepticism also play a part in influencing our slower, funeral like moments. 3.how would you describe your music? I would describe our music as slow and majestic, with sounds from the tin whistle and bodhran to create images of Celtic rituals and battles, something we also take great inspiration from. There are of course more fast parts in our music but these only come up every so often and add a great atmosphere. Then there are also parts influenced by Doom Metal, especially as done by bands like Skepticism. 4. were are you guys from? We are from Belfast in Ireland. 5. you recorded a demo, how was that? Well the demo wasn't exactly of the highest sound quality, as we made it on a tape recorder, but we still hope that it gets across the atmosphere we hoping. The next demo we make will probably be made the same but after that we're hoping to get them on CD and maybe by then we will have added a drummer. 6.what do you like to do besides make music? Well I like to listen to music, watch films, read and basically hang with friends and the lads. Same with James really as to be honest there isn't a lot to do here. :( 7.what is the celtic scene like how do they act? Well we don't know many at the moment but the stage shows are usually phenomonal with Celtic warpaint and full Celtic dress on stage, always great to see. 8. how do your family and friends feel about your music? Our friends think its great that we are making music and those who play instruments have expressed interest in the currently vacant drum spot, hopefully to be filled soon, in time for our official demo. 9. when are you guys going to release a full length album? We will try to when we have full equipment at our desposal, as we have several ideas for songs which simply wouldn't sound right without proper mixing and all the instruments we want to use. We feel it would sound slightly underachieved and not a true representation of our sound unless we had great equipment and instruments so we want to wait until we're signed maybe and with proper distribution. 10. what do you think far gone light will be like 5 years from now? We hope to have made it onto a proper label and still be making music in the same vein as the current and maybe have a little bit of success. 11. what is far gone light about? Far Gone Light is about keeping alive Celtic culture, while making dark and atmospheric music which creates a certain mood while you're listening to it. We are simply about the music and the culture behind it.
