Interview with Keisuke by Jill Girardi

JILL: GIVE US THE FACTS ON VOMIT REMNANTS, IN FIFTY WORDS OR LESS.
Keisuke: Vomit Remnants was formed in October '97. One month after that, I got great guitarist-Takahiro, bassist-Ryo, and singer-Shin, who came from legendary brutal godz, FLESHMANGLER!! Our demo releases are "In The Name Of Vomit", and "Brutally Violated". All releases are total NY style influenced mega brutal Death!

YOUR SOUND IS INCREDIBLE-WITH A SUFFOCATION STYLE, YET STILL ORIGINAL. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO CREATE SUCH A SOUND AND STAY AWAY FROM THE STYLE OF JAPANESE BANDS? DO YOU TRY TO KEEP THE "LOCAL" SOUND FROM FINDING ITS WAY INTO YOUR SONGWRITING?
Yeah!! Thanks for your great words regarding my band! I think being from Japan makes it very difficult to create a New York style brutal Death Metal sound. But we always listen to New York style bands. It's a fucking special type of brutality! Totally heavy!

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO DO A COVER SONG, "CATATONIA" ON YOUR "IN THE NAME OF VOMIT" DEMO? WHICH VERSION DO YOU PREFER-YOURS OR SUFFOCATION'S?
We're really big followers of Suffocation, especially Mike Smith's drumming. It's one of my long cherished desires to play like him!! Catatonia is one of our favorite songs and the riffs are easier than other songs. So we chose it. Suffo's version rules, but I like our version. Forever Mike Smith!!

THE SOUND QUALITY ON "IN THE NAME OF VOMIT" IS A LOT CRISPER THAN "BRUTALLY VIOLATED". DID YOU GO TO A DIFFERENT STUDIO THIS SECOND TIME AROUND? WILL YOU BE USING THE SAME STUDIO FOR YOUR NEXT RECORDING?
Yes, we used a different studio the second time. But both demos were totally self-recorded in a studio. We'll be using yet another new studio on the next recording. But we bought a digital 16 track recording studio for the next recording, and it wil have a really professional sound quality. We've been using a poor Analog 8 track this whole time.

HAS VOMIT REMNANTS PLAYED A LOT OF SHOWS? WHAT KIND OF A SHOW DO YOU PUT ON?
No, we've only played two times. You know, here in Japan it is very difficult to be a brutal Death Metal band. It's shit! FUCKING SHIT! I'm sorry for this uninspired answer...we hope to have a lot of shows in the USA with only brutal Death Metal! Our show is a fuckng head spinning mosh!

DOES VOMIT REMNANTS HAVE ANY NEW MATERIAL? WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO RECORD AGAIN? DO YOU THINK YOU MIGHT ONE DAY RELEASE A CD?
We have one new song we recorded exclusively for the next Razorback Records compilation cd! We'll also record 8 songs for our upcoming debut cd! It will be out in April '99 from a Japanese Underground label called Macabre Mementos Records & Distribution! And we'll also be recodring an unreleased track for a split tape with Tumor!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF FELLOW JAPANESE BANDS SUCH AS GORE BEYOND NECROPSY, DISGUST, DESPERATE CORRUPTION, CSSO AND VAMPYRIC MOTIVES (EX-C.U.M.)?
Yep! Gore Beyond Necropsy is one of our favorite bands! The Disgust/Hemdale split ep is fucking killer! Desperate Corruption was a great Death Metal band, but now they've broked up. CSSO and C.U.M. are great! C.U.M.'s cd is fucking sick! Japan has some great Grind bands, but there are no brutal Death Metal bands. Except for us, there's nothing.

THANKS A LOT, KEISUKE!
Thanks for interviewing us! We really appreciate it. Keep up the gerat work. Long live Razorback Records! Also thanks to all cool readers! If you like ultra guttural, sick, brutal, blasting NY Death Metal, write us for more information! Support brutal Death!
