Truth
The
Plot: Final Fantasy
IX takes place in a land called Gaia, where there are four ruling
continents. Lindblum, ruled by Regent Cid, hires a gang of bandits (Zidane is part
of this
group) to kidnap the Princess Garnet of Alexandria, a neighboring nation.
This is because Queen Brahne of Alexandria has begun to attack nearby villages
for no reason. Cid hopes that Garnet can explain her mother's behavior. Garnet
realizes that
her mother is being controlled by evil and joins the group willingly
and
brings Steiner (her bodyguard) along. The queen then sends black
mages after
them, at which point Vivi joins the group. This is
what happens in the first hour of
the game.
The
Gameplay: The number of people you control in your party has moved back up to 4,
and front
rows and back rows are available. Characters now have specific job types
(example: Zidane is a thief, Vivi is a black mage), and only
certain characters can
learn some commands and spells (Like only Zidane
can have the "Steal"
command). Skills come in two types: Action
Abilities and Support Abilities. Action
Abilities are spells or special sword
techniques and can be used in battle. Support
Abilities affect your status like
raising your defenses and affect a character's
statistics. Characters can also
earn new abilities from the weapons and items they
have equipped. Action Points
(AP) are given through successful battles, and these
AP points are used to learn
the abilities from the equipped items or weapons.
Here's an example: Vivi
has a Black Mage Staff that contains the abilities Fire and
Osmose. After he
gains enough AP (he must have the weapon equipped the whole
time!) then
he will have learned those spells. Vivi can then unequip the Staff and
still use Fire and Osmose. He then can equip something else and learn a new
spell. If he has not learned those spells, and the Staff is unequipped, then he
stops learning, and he cannot use the spells in battle. Understand? It's much
easier than the junction system in FF8. Magic still uses Magic Points (MP) and
you
can still summon monsters (not called Guardian Forces). Instead of Limit
Breaks,
there is a Trance Mode. Once your character takes enough damage, they go
into a
trance. They then gain an entirely new set of abilities for a short time.
The
Tiny Things: Of course there are little things to the game also added. Such
as ! and
? marks near objects you can interact with. When you wander around
cities, you
encounter "Active Time Events" which are scenes involving
your other characters
who are also searching the city. You can choose to watch
or ignore them. There are
tons of others that I won't tell about here. After
all, it's all about the tiny things!
Lies
Maybe ALL of the FF characters will appear. I read that dumb little rumor on
someone else's page. I highly doubt that Square would put past FF characters
into
the game. But, of course, there better be a Vicks, Biggs, and Wedge.
And don't
forget Cid!
Rumors
I read in a
magazine a while ago that due to the
disappointment of the whole
junction/ system that FF8 clings too and
relies on, FF9 will not follow the same
structure. Instead it will
follow more along the lines of the FF7 materia/summon
system. There is
also the rumor that it will be a whole new system unlike FF7 or 8.

bubbles above will guide you around my site.
