So, Anna Kournikova is not really dating Enrique Iglesias after all. According to
the 21-year-old natural blonde sports star, there's "absolutely no truth" in the
rumours that started with an almost unairably steamy kiss in the video for Iglesias'
latest single. There's hope yet for us all. Not all that much, obviously, as the
multi-millionairess tennis player warms up for Wimbledon. But a glimmer. Anna
is back in the game after a 10-month sabbatical, following last year's sudden
withdrawal from British tournament due to injury. Such is her effect on fans that
when news came in that she wouldn't be putting in an appearance at the All
England Tennis Club last year, thanks to a broken bone in her foot (a very
honourable kind of injury), grown men openly wept. But this year, she promises
she will be here. However fleetingly. Now seeded No.55, Kournikova earned only
£220,000 in prize money in 2001. But she still managed to net an astonishing
£7 million in sponsorship from the likes of Berlei sports bras and Adidas. If her
form doesn't improve, Adidas have threatened to terminate her contract. From
where we're sitting, her form couldn't be better. What's more, it's all natural. "My
hair gets bleached by the sun," she tells the Evening Standard. "I've never dyed
it. And I never wear make-up when I'm playing, I don't have time to even think
about that. I've learned to focus." Sigh.
