What do Americans want to know? When it comes to personalities, everything there is to know about Britney Spears, according to Ask Jeeves, the Emeryville-based Internet search engine. Questions about Britney Spears far surpassed searches for any other celebrity on Ask Jeeves, it says. In fact, nearly three times as many questions were asked about Ms. Spears as were asked about Jennifer Lopez, the second most popular celebrity among Ask Jeeves' users.
But overall, inquiries about personalities paled compared to the top topic: "Where can I find music lyrics?"
The rest of the top 10 were (2) Where can I find a phone number; (3) Where can I find a currency converter; (4) Where can I find driving directions; (5) Where can I see a map of the world; (6) Where can I learn about World War II; (7) Where can I find information about writing a resume; (8) How do I make a Web page; (9) Where can I find cheap airfare; and (10) How can I tell if I'm pregnant?
The Ask Jeeves list is based on the nearly 1.3 billion questions asked of the search engine over the past year, it says. The top news-related searches conducted on Ask Jeeves reflect the history of the year with questions about Sept. 11, terrorism, Nostradamus, Osama bin Laden and cloning as the top five.
