Britney Spears has conquered the music industry, selling tens of million of records since her 1999 debut. Now, the teeny-bop pop princess has set her sights on the movies, and Paramount Pictures is in final talks to facilitate her all-media domination.
Paramount is about to acquire domestic distribution rights to the untitled coming-of-age movie that marks Spears' acting debut. The studio will release it under its MTV Films banner, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Pitched as "Boys on the Side" meets "Duets," the $10 million project was written by Shonda Rhimes (HBO's "Introducting Dorothy Dandridge") and directed by Tamra Davis ("Billy Madison").
Spears will star as a moral, virginal student with a 4.0 grade point average who goes on a road trip with a cheerleader and a loser, who are friends from her childhood. Along the way, they hook up with a young struggling musician who talks them into competing at a Los Angeles music contest. Dan Aykroyd, Kim Cattrall, Taryn Manning and Zoe Saldana will co-star.
ay be spurned on by sagging album sales. Her latest release "Britney" is lagging behind her last album "Oops! I Did It Again" by more than 50 percent.
