Britney Burglars Sentenced to Probation

The four cat burglars who robbed actress-singer Britney Spears, star of Crossroads, and boyfriend-at-the time Justin Timberlake have each received three years probation in a Florida courtroom after entering pleas of no contest to the September burglary of the pop stars' rented vacation home in Destin Fla.

Florida Circuit Court Judge G. Robert Barron sentenced Richard Olivarez, 20; Marcus Cook, 19; Salvador Martinez, 19 and Matthew Daily, 18, as youthful offenders, the Associated Press reports.

Each was asked by Barron to sign a confidentiality agreement which would keep the stolen items under wraps. However, a police report listed the loot as including video tapes with "personal footage," items of clothing, a "Gilligan-style" hat, nail polish, a bottle of Bacardi and a bottle of Jack Daniels. While the pair was under legal drinking age at the time, they were vacationing with adults.

Prosecutor Ace Grinsted says the light sentence and plea were hammered out by lawyers for Spears, 20, and Timberlake, 21 and approved by the judge. The State Attorney's Office had decided not to grant a reduced sentence, Grinsted adds, since prosecutors reportedly asked for 20-month sentences for the four burglars.
