Fred Durst on Britney - and the new album
September 8, 2003

Fred Durst has been in London showcasing Limp Bizkit's new album, and he spoke pretty openly about his ex, Britney Spears too.

During the press gathering, Fred had a go at some journos to begin with, accusing them of twisting his words, but he admitted a bit later that he'd reacted badly and didn't really mean it.

He also revealed that Halle Berry will be appearing in his next video; he admitted he loves The Darkness; and here's what he had to say about Britney:

Britney Spears

"Her label had called me and said Britney's trying to be shocking and different and daring."

"So we get in the studio, and it was my way of seeing if we had chemistry at all and if I thought she was cool or this crazy, dumb little pop girl with this great ass."

"I thought that she was very sweet, and I was trying to guide her, and I was like 'You need to f****** get out of this music you're doing, you need to grow'. She was probably shocked and said 'Nobody's talked to me like that.'"

"It ended up us going to her house and f*** songs, do you know what I mean?"

Limp Bizkit also did a free gig at Finsbury Park in London on Saturday night to make up for pulling out of loads of summer shows and festivals.

Fred says he understands how frustrating it can be for fans when bands cancel:

"Having to cancel sucks because I've been in shows where bands had to cancel or when I used to get to go to shows all the time, and if someone cancels, you almost don't think the bands are human."

"You almost think that they're not allowed to cancel, they're not allowed to be sick, and they'd better f****** be here, and if they're not, f*** them."

"The UK, not only is it like the best place to play in the world, it's almost the most hardcore f****** place in the world. If you f*** up here man, it's just like f****** brutal, a brutal beating."

More bizarrely, Fred also spoke about the attention he was getting when he dated Geri Halliwell:

"I ran into her a few times. I thought she was kinda cute and funny. I saw her at this show I hosted. She was one of the guests, and I said 'Hey man, let's go and get a lunch together.' She was like 'Okay'."

"Next thing I know I'm at lunch and that day walking to lunch, click, click, click, click there's all these people! Wow, it's in the paper the next day!"

"We wanted to get to know each other, so we went hiking up on this canyon that no-one knows about it, and it was like click, click, click, click - there's people waiting on us outside of the cars!"

The band only played for just over an hour at Finsbury Park, and they got a big reaction for the older hits like the 'Mission: Impossible' theme.

There were lots of pyrotechnics on stage, even a fireworks display, and he closed with their metal version of George Michael's 'Faith', urging all the ladies to get on their blokes' shoulders.
