...A Place On Earth - The Greatest Hits
Belinda Carlisle

Released: 01/11/1999
Label: Virgin

In all the fuss about the admittedly marvellous Debbie Harry, people have often underrated Belinda Carlisle as one of the great pop icons of the Eighties, both with The Go Go's and as a solo artist. As this Greatest Hits package demonstrates, she was responsible for loads of anthemic classics that managed to combine devilishly catchy tunes with just the right degree of meaningless, yet intangibly affirmative lyrics. So, if you're thinking of just how to liven up your party once all the proper drink has run out, you could do a lot worse than cracking out the Blue Nun and jigging round the living room to Heaven Is A Place On Earth, Circle In The Sand, Leave A Light On and (We Want) The Same Thing. The new single, All God's Children, is pants, but that's forgivable in the face of such overwhelming pop perfection. Even the accompanying throwaway remix album is fun. Belinda rules.
