Chapter 2
Sally, “Let me get this straight. You pay me 2 million to start with?”
David, “That’s right.”
Sally, “And 2 million each month afterwards?”
David, “Exactly.”
Sally, “Why?”
David, “Let’s just say we have a mutual hatred towards one family.”
Sally, “I know why I hate them. What’s your excuse?”
David, “Massimo and Linda Marone are my parents.”
Sally, “Well, I’ll be.”
David, “I’m just paying them back for destroying my family.”
Massimo, “Yes, thank you.”
Stephanie, “Who was that?”
Massimo, “Yves. He said David’s in town.”
Stephanie, “Really?”
Massimo, “Yes.”
Stephanie, “You don’t seem too thrilled.”
Massimo, “Stephanie, David grew up knowing his parents loved other people. He was robbed of ever having a real family.”
Stephanie, “Think he’ll try something?”
Massimo, “Yes, it’s only a question of what though.”
Stephanie, “You don’t think he’ll try something dangerous, do you?”
Massimo, “I don’t know. He’s bitter and dangerous and he’s got both his mother’s and mine business sense.”
Stephanie, “Forrester Creations.”
Massimo, “Precisely.”
Stephanie, “How can you be so sure?”
Massimo, “Because it’s what I would do. And David is my son in every sense of the word.”
Stephanie, “We have to tell Eric.”
Massimo, “And Brooke.”
Stephanie, “No, let’s leave her out of this. She’s in no shape to be bothered with this.”
Massimo, “Only question is, will he do it alone or have help?”
Amber, “You coming to bed?”
Rick, “In a bit. I need to finish this.”
Amber, “What is it?”
Rick, “My thesis.”
Amber, “On what?”
Rick, “Forrester Creations. We were told to write about what we know.”
Amber, “And if you get a good enough grade on it you graduate?”
Rick, “Yeah. My whole graduation rides on this.”
Amber, “Take as long as you need.”
Rick, “Thanks.” He got back to work on his paper.
Thorne had gone home so Brooke could get some rest. He was working on finishing the nursery up when he heard someone at the door. “Sally.”
Sally, “Hello Thorne.” She looked down at the baby clothes in his hand. “On babysitting duty tonight?”
Thorne, “No, I’m not.”
Sally, “That’s right, I forgot. So, did the little wife make you a father yet?”
Thorne, “Yeah, she had a little boy. And no, she’s not here for you to harass.”
Sally, “Too bad. I wanted her to hear what I have to say.”
Thorne, “And what’s that?”
Sally, “Forrester Creations is going down.”
Thorne, “What else is new? Make sure you come back next month to tell us.”
Sally, “Hmmm, you seem confident.”
Thorne, “Wouldn’t you be? You tell us this every month. I actually look forward to it. Now, if you’ll excuse me I was in the middle of something here. Good-bye Sally.”
Sally, “Someday you Forrester’s are going to eat your words. And your wife is finally going to pay for killing my daughter.”
Thorne, “Oh Sally! Would you please get off the ‘Brooke killed Macy’ bandwagon? Brooke is no more responsible for Macy’s death than Father Thomas at the local church.”
Sally, “Someday you and your entire family is going to know what it feels like to finally lose something so dear to you. Good-bye Thorne.” She left.
Thorne, “She needs some serious psychiatric help.” He went upstairs.
1 WEEK LATER
Thorne, “BROOKE? DAD AND LINDA’S HERE.”
A few minutes later Brooke came downstairs. “Would you keep your voice down? I just got Steven down for a nap.”
Thorne, “Sorry. He finally sleeping?”
Brooke, “Yes, finally.”
Linda, “He keeping you awake?”
Brooke, “Every night. The only thing that helps is when Thorne starts singing to him. So, what can we do for you two?”
Eric, “Well, we were hoping we could watch Steven tonight. Give you and Thorne a break.”
Brooke, “You have no idea how tempting that is.”
Linda, “Well then, take us up on the offer.”
Brooke, “I don’t know. He’s kind of attached to having me and Thorne here all the time.”
Eric, “Well then it’ll be good for him. He’ll get used to having Grandma and Grandpa around.”
Thorne, “You know how long it’s been since we enjoyed a nice night out, alone?”
Brooke, “Alright. Thorne and I can use a night out. You sure you don’t mine?”
Eric, “Not in the least. Alright you two go get changed.” About a half hour later Thorne and Brooke went back downstairs. “I’ve already reserved a table for you at Café Russe.”
Brooke, “Why thank you Eric. Now, if you two have any trouble with him, call me on my cell phone. I don’t care what it is.”
Linda, “I’m sure he’ll be fine. You two go, have fun. Enjoy yourselves.”
Thorne, “We will. Thank you.” Thorne and Brooke left.
CAFÉ RUSSE
Thorne and Brooke were enjoying their time alone when someone went over to their table.
Morgan, “Enjoying yourselves?”
Thorne, “We were.”
Morgan, “Don’t let me ruin your fun. So, where’s the little tyke?”
Brooke, “With his grandparents. Now, what do you want?”
Morgan, “A favor?”
Brooke, “Nope.”
Morgan, “You haven’t heard me out.”
Brooke, “Don’t need to.”
Morgan, “I don’t get it. That family has tried everything they could to keep you out of their lives and now you’re trying to protect them?”
Brooke, “It’s a crazy world, isn’t it? Oh, what the hell. You won’t go away until I’ve heard your favor. What is it?”
Morgan, “I want you to talk to Ridge and get him to drop his custody suit.”
Brooke, “You do now do you?” She looked at Thorne. “I told you she didn’t have to ask. No, Morgan, I’m not going to talk to him.”
Morgan, “Ridge won’t win.”
Brooke, “We’ll see.”
Morgan, “I guess we will.” She left.
Thorne, “Give her credit, she’s persistent.”
Brooke, “Yeah, and I wish she find someone else to be persistent with.”
Thorne, “Like Sally?”
Brooke, “Even I wouldn’t wish Morgan on Sally.”
Thorne, “You know, she dropped by the house a week ago.”
Brooke, “What for?”
Thorne, “Her monthly ‘Forrester Creations is going down’ speech.”
Brooke, “And I had to miss it?”
Just then David walked over to their table. “Brooke, Thorne.”
Thorne, “What is this? A full moon?”
Brooke, “We didn’t know you were in town.” She said, starting to get uneasy around him.
David, “No one did. I wanted to surprise everyone.”
Brooke, “Well it’s a surprise. I’ll give you that.”
Thorne and David did not get along at all. Thorne saw David as nothing but an overgrown spoiled brat. David just didn’t like Thorne.
David, “Could I get a dance with my favorite sister-in-law?”
Thorne, “No, you can’t.”
David, “I don’t believe the question was for you.”
Brooke, “I think I’ll pass.”
David, “Come on, just one dance.”
Brooke, “I still think I’ll pass.”
David grabbed a hold of Brooke’s hand, she tried to pull free, but his grip was too good. “Just one.”
Thorne saw red when he saw David touching Brooke’s hand the way he was. “*MY* wife said no Marone.” He stood up.
David released Brooke’s hand. “ Someday, we’re going to dance, me and you.”
Thorne, “Over my dead body.”
David, “Easily arranged.” He looked at Brooke one more time and then went back to his table. “And I know exactly how to destroy that family now.”
Sally, “Do you?”
David, “Sally, always a pleasure. Please sit.”
Sally, “So, how are you going to destroy them?”
David, “How well do you know Brooke?”
Sally, “What would you like to know?”
David, “How many marriages has she had?”
Sally, “Thorne is her fifth one.”
David, “Interesting. So, overall she’s not very committed to her husband?”
Sally, “Let’s just say she loves destroying relationships but once she has, she throws the conquered away like it was nothing.”
David, “Would you say it’d be pretty easy to make her lose interest in Thorne?”
Sally, “I’m saying it’s easier done than said. I’m surprised she’s stayed interested this long.”
David, “She won’t be for long.” David had always had a very unhealthy obsession with Brooke. “By the time I’m through with her, even Ridge Forrester won’t want to touch her.”
Thorne looked at Brooke, who looked like she just got done dealing with the Devil. “Brooke? Brooke?” He grabbed hold of her hand, Brooke jumped. “Honey, what’s wrong?”
Brooke, “Nothing, I just…I’m going to call and check on Steven.”
Thorne, “I’m sure he’s fine.”
Brooke, “I’ll be back.” She got up, as she walked past David’s table, he smiled. Very pleased with the effect he was having on her. She walked out into the lounge of the Café Russe. Thorne watched the whole thing and went over to David’s table.
David, “Thorne.”
Thorne, “I don’t know what you did to my wife, but if I ever see you anywhere near her again, so help me god what I’ll do to you.”
David, “Kind of touchy, aren’t we? The things I could tell you about her.”
Thorne, “You son of a…”
Brooke, “Can we just go home Thorne, please?”
Thorne, “Just stay away from her.” They left.
Sally, “That was…interesting.”
David, “You isn’t seen nothing yet.”
Linda, “Back so soon?”
Brooke, “I’m going upstairs to check on Steven. Eric, Linda thank you for watching him.”
Eric, “What’s wrong with her?”
Thorne, “David.”
Linda, “He’s in town?”
Thorne, “He was at the Café Russe tonight. And now he’s got Brooke pretty shaken up.”
Linda, “What’d he do?”
Thorne, “He asked her to dance with him, she refused, and then he grabbed a hold of her hand. He wouldn’t let go until I told him to. And after that she’s been on pins and needles.”
Linda, “That’s odd, I’ll talk to him.”
Thorne, “Thanks. I’m going to go check on her.” Linda and Eric left. Thorne went upstairs. “Brooke? Honey?” He walked up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders, Brooke jumped a little. “What is wrong with you?”
Brooke, “Nothing. Can’t I be a little jumpy?”
Thorne, “Yeah, but ever since David…” And then it dawned on him. He thought back to 5 years ago when Ridge called him to tell him Brooke had been raped. “He isn’t the guy who…”
Brooke, “Raped me? Yeah, he is.”
Thorne, “I’m going to kill him with my bare hands.”
Brooke, “Thorne, no. Let it go.”
Thorne, “That guy did the lowest thing possible he could do to you. I’m not going to let him get away with it.”
Brooke, “Thorne, please, for me? I just want to forget about it.”
Thorne, “You can’t do that with him here. I’m going to tell security at Forrester Creations not to let him in the building under any circumstances. He’s not going to do that to you again.”
Eric, “I just don’t get what’s got her so shaken up about him.”
Linda, “Let me talk to him.” She thought some more. “Please, don’t let it be.”
Eric, “Don’t let it be what?”
Linda, “Listen, I have someplace I have to go.”
Eric, “But…” Before he could say anything else she left.
Linda drove by the Café Russe. When she recognized David’s car she parked hers in front of the restaurant. She went in and asked them to tell David to meet her in the lobby.
David, “Well, now my evening’s complete.”
Linda, “Did you do it?”
David, “Do what?”
Linda, “Rape Brooke 5 years ago?”
David, “What kind of question is that for your own son?”
Linda, “David, please. You stopped being my son long ago…by your own choosing. Just answer the question David.”
David, “You’ll hear about it from her anyways. Yes, I did.”
Linda, “You did that to her?”
David, “Yes, I did. And I think she enjoyed it a bit more than she’s letting on.”
Linda reached up and slapped him across the face. “I never dreamed I’d say this about my own son, but you spineless bastard! You have any idea what you’ve done to her?”
David, “Should I care?”
Linda, “You should once your father finds out.”
David, “What’s daddy going to do?”
Linda, “Just stay away from her.” She left the Café Russe and went back home.
Eric, “Is everything alright?”
Linda, “Is it ever alright?”
Eric, “I’m not sure I follow.”
Linda, “How would you react if you just found out your own son was the Devil incarnate?”
Eric, “What did David do?”
Linda, “He did it to Brooke.”
Eric, “He did what?”
Linda, “Raped her 5 years ago.”
Eric, “WHAT?!”
Linda, “He told me himself. And he doesn’t have any remorse for it.”
Eric, “That…I’ll kill him myself.”
Linda, “I think we should be more worried about helping Brooke.”
Eric, “Having him here can’t be easy on her. No wonder she was the way she was when her and Thorne got home tonight.”
Linda, “I just can’t believe my own son could do something like this. Where did I go wrong in raising him?”
Eric, “It’s nothing you’ve done. It’s the way he’s turned out. Don’t blame yourself.”
Linda, “How can I not?”
Eric, “It’s late. Let’s head on up to bed.” Eric’s heart broke for Linda having to find out what her son was really like.
NEXT DAY
Thorne and Brooke went into Forrester Creations, they took Steven with them.
Ridge went in to see Brooke. “I heard my second favorite nephew is here.”
Brooke, “He’s right over there.”
Ridge went over and picked him up. “He’s getting bigger.”
Brooke, “Yes, he is.”
Ridge, “How’s he doing?”
Brooke, “Good. He’s just demanding a lot more of mine and Thorne’s attention.”
Ridge, “Taylor’s going to talk to some people for you two.”
Brooke, “That’d be great. Tell her thanks.”
Ridge, “I will.” He sat down on the couch, holding Steven. “Who would of thought it? Me and you…happy with other people.”
Brooke, “Certainly not your mother.”
Ridge, “Yeah, she had a lot of doubts about your love for Thorne.”
Brooke, “You did too, at first.”
Ridge, “I know. But I see how right you two are for each other. It’s just…”
Brooke, “Ridge, don’t.”
Ridge, “Don’t what?”
Brooke, “Don’t play the what-if game. All it does is cause unnecessary guilt and pain.”
Ridge, “You’re right.” He looked down at Steven. “He’s a beautiful little boy.”
Brooke, “Thank you. His father and I seem to think so.”
Ridge, “Well, normally parents are biased, but in this case it’s true.”
Brooke, “Thorne and I had a pleasant talk with Morgan last night.”
Ridge, “What? Is she bothering you?”
Brooke, “No, but she did want me to talk to you about dropping your custody suit for Kevin.”
Ridge, “She wishes.”
Brooke, “She seems desperate.”
Ridge, “Because she knows she’s going to lose.”
Brooke, “Are you sure you want to pursue this?”
Ridge, “Yes, I am. I’ve got some meetings I need to get to. Thanks for everything.”
Brooke, “Anytime you need someone to listen to you, I’m here.”
Ridge, “I know. Thanks.” He put Steven back down and left. Brooke went over to her desk and started working on some contracts. She was startled by a voice.
David, “I told you we’d dance.” He locked the door.
