INTRODUCTION

Santa Barbara premiered July 30, 1984, the brainchild of Jerome and Briget Dobson. This was the second show to be launched in an hour-long format (the first was Texas). Santa Barbara followed the lives of four families: the powerful Capwells, the high-society Lockridges, the middle-class Perkinises and a low-income Hispanic family, The Andrades.

Though this luxurious production was supported by a $ 30 millions commintment from NBC, the show debuted during the Summer Olympic Games, and a scant attention was paid by the television audience. Eventually, a radical solution to the sagging ratings was sought: an eartquake decimated the community and a Carnation killer storyline did many unwanted characters simply disappeared.

Since this time, SB has been blessed with inspired performances from Lane Davies ( Mason Capwell # 1), Marcy Walker ( Eden Capwell Castillo), A Martinez ( Cruz Castillo), Todd McKee ( Ted Capwell), Robin Wright ( Kelly Capwell # 1), Nancy Lee Grahn (Julia Wainwright Capwell) , Nicolas Coster ( Lionel Lockridge), Louise Sorel ( Augusta Lockridge), Robin Mattson ( Gina Capwell Lockridge), Judith McConnell ( Sophia Capwell) and Jed Allan ( CC Capwell # 5).

Though the show centered on super couple Eden and Cruz Castillo, the show gave good stories to some others characters and a then new generation of excellent actors such as Carrington Garland ( Kelly Capwell # 3), John Callahan (Craig Hunt), Gordon Thomson (Mason Capwell # 3), Jack Wagner ( Warren lockridge # 3)...

SB had a penchant for black humor tha has earned it a devoted cult following. But due to low ratings, NBC decide to cancel the show on 15 January, 1993, after 2137 episodes and that day marked the end of Santa Barbara and the biggest mistake ever of the chain NBC. They survive to lament this decision. Since then, their line-up of shows is disappearing : Another World, Sunset Beach...Fortunately, they have Days of our lives and Passions, but ...until when?

Nowadays, Santa Barbara follows alive in their fans and it is the only show that has an increasing number of fans and webpages despite of being cancelled. Fortunately, SB is seen around the world in their numerous reruns. Thousand of fans dream with seeing a rerun of Santa Barbara in their countries and they keep dreaming ...
