Depending on the point of view, the kiss broke off far too soon... or far too late. *What am I **doing**?!?* Mickey Kostmayer silently castigated himself. Sydney, still snuggled against him, sought his lips for another kiss. Reluctantly, his released his hold on her. "I'm sorry, Sydney, but this is wrong, very wrong." Before she could speak, he placed a shushing finger against her lips. "Why don't you take a nice long soak in the bath, and I'll keep watch here."

Looking like she was about to protest, she finally nodded her assent, after a few more sniffles. "All right, Meekey," she said, in the cute accent he liked, "if you say so." Slowly she stood up and shuffled off to the bathroom.

She looked so despondent he almost ran after her, but he forced himself to remain where he was. He sat down by his toothpick model and tried to concentrate, so he could add to the work in progress, but he couldn't.

What seemed like hours later, but was probably only about half an hour, she returned, her bathrobe tied tightly around her. "Will you please just hold me, Meekey, while I try to sleep?" she asked, and she looked so forlorn he didn't have the heart to refuse.

"Sure." He stood up, covered his sculpture again, and walked her to her bedroom, arm around her waist.

He held her until she fell asleep, gently stroked her hair, then watched her for a while. Later, he slipped his arm away from her, then stood up. He decided he needed a shower, so he stripped off his sweater and shirt, then walked to the bathroom.
