Eye of the Tiger

Mickey Kostmayer stood in Robert McCall's living room and paced nervously. "Did my time, took my chances," he
blurted, then abruptly flung himself onto Robert's white couch. "You got me out of prison, McCall...what do you suggest I do with the rest of my life?"

Robert thoughtfully looked over the young man whom he had cleared of a murder charge, and spoke. "Well now, young man, I do have a suggestion...if you really wish to hear it." His gaze took in the worn blue jeans and threadbare white t-shirt, as well as shoes that appeared to be about to fall apart at any second. His smile hidden, he imagined how the first meeting would go between Mickey and the man only known as Control.

"Fire away," Mickey said. "No pun intended," he belatedly added.

"I wish to bring you to meet a colleague of mine, one who's suitably placed to do you some good. Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past, merely adapt them. I'll speak to him about training you, myself."

"Are you sure? It's the thrill of the fight that drew me to join the SEALS...and what did that get me? A ten year sentence, doing hard labor, after I was found guilty of murdering my partner." He kept his eyes locked on McCall's. "You came in, you found the evidence to overturn my sentence...why? Why did you bother? Why did you help me?"

"Your C.O. came to me, we'd worked together before, and he told me he thought you were being framed. I told him I'd look into it a bit, for old times' sake, and I found out you had been. Then I met you." Robert looked at his watch and said, "We must leave now if we're to meet my friend."

"Now?!? I thought it would be a few days yet!" Mickey exclaimed.

This time, McCall smiled. "Yes, well, never be predictable is my motto. Come along, Kostmayer, and meet your future...if you wish to."

McCall locked his apartment door and the two men went down to the Jaguar.

Eye of the Tiger--by Survivor
Risin' up, back on the street,
Did my time, took my chances.
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet.
Just a man and his will to survive.

It's the eye of the tiger,
It's the thrill of the fight,
Rising up to the challenge of our rival.
And the last known survivor stalks his
prey in the night,
And he's watching us all with the eye of
the tiger.

So many times, it happens too fast,
You trade your passion for glory.
Don't lose your grip
on the dreams of the past,
You must fight just to keep them alive.

(chorus)

Face to face, out in the heat,
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry.
They stack the odds, still we
Take to the street,
For the kill, with the skill to survive.

(chorus)

Risin' up, straight to the top,
Had the guts, got the glory.
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop,
Just a man and his will to survive.

(chorus)
