Poison/warrant/quiet riot/enuff z' nuff at the PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ
This was the last show for me this year :-(
I saw four shows this year and I'm still wishing there was another I could go to. Talk about greedy!
We had to park in the secondary lot this year. Oh my GOD, that was a long walk uphill! I just kept thinking "Oh great, I'm going to have a heart attack walking up this damn hill and miss the show!"
This arena is really designed well. I found out that it was built in 1968. I never would have guessed by looking at it. Very modern looking. Below are some pictures of it that I scanned from the program book. The ceiling is most impressive.
Second row was very cool, and until Poison went on I had an incredible view except for the two girls in front of me wearing platform shoes which made them like 7 feet tall. Do you really need to be that tall when you're in the first row? Next time I'm buying giant elevator boots so I can be the only one who can see.
We got in our seats just as Enuff Z' Nuff started. I'm starting to like this band. I find myself humming "Fly Away" and a couple of the others that I don't know the names of. During Ricky Parent's solo they brought out these two kids. The one went behind the drums and the other with purple hair and sunglasses stood holding the guitar with Donnie Vie. I forget who the kid on the drums was but the one with Donnie was Bobby's kid. They got a big round of applause. Chip walked up behind the one security guard, put his bass around the guard's neck, and played like that for a while. The guard looked kind of ticked off but he was smiling anyway.
$3.50 FOR A BOTTLE OF WATER!! I don't care what kind of water it is, it's not worth 3.50. They probably charge that much because they know you'll need it since it gets so hot in there.
Quiet Riot performance was completely different than at Jones Beach. The crowd was really into it and it was obvious that the band was feeding off of it. It was Carlos's birthday today so we all sang Happy Birthday to him, then Kevin asked, "OK now who's going to blow him? Rudy did I see your hand come up?" Frankie was really wailing on the drums that night. The three times I'd seen him on this tour, he looked really bored especially at Jones Beach, but he was going crazy here. I like the new songs Vicious Circle and Feel The Pain.
The crowd was going crazy by the time Warrant came out. The new guitarist seems to fit perfectly with them. He really looks like he has fun up there. He kept throwing picks towards where I was but I couldn't find any of them. He had a sticker on the bottom of his guitar that said 'I love mullets'. I thought that was pretty cute. I don't care what anyone says, they put on a great show and they sound really tight. Jani jumped down into the crowd again and made a big circle around the arena. The rest of the guys were just laughing and shaking their heads as Jani wandered around.
The people were raring to go when Poison started. It amazes me that I still get goosebumps when they start a show even though I've seen them do it so many times. CC's solo was great, everyone really gets into "Every Bone" or should I say "Every Banana" Rikki's solo once again was intense, I love the feeling of that special effect he's got going. It kind of changes the air pressure enough to make your hair move to the beat. I don't really understand how that works but it's a cool feeling. Bobby was right in front of us for pretty much the whole time. I never noticed how crazy he gets since I don't usually wind up on that side. He was going absolutely apeshit jumping around, screaming and making faces. Bret kept pointing at us, I'm kind of amazed that he remembered us. I mean on a good day he probably meets close to a hundred people. I wonder if he'll remember next year.
The after show was kind of screwed up this time. We were told to pick either Bret or Rikki but not both again. This time we went with Rikki because we were told that CC and Bobby should be there too. I wasn't counting on it but I was hoping they would be. Unfortunately, Bobby wasn't there at all and CC was there for like 2 seconds. We were considering just leaving because it had been almost 2 hours of waiting. Thank God CC Banana was there to keep us entertained or we probably would have left. Then security came in and told everyone with a RR on their pass to come outside. We stood out there for a little while and then were told to go back to the tent. Apparently while we were outside, they told everyone else who didn't have an RR to go home.
After another little while Rikki showed up. We had to pretty much say hi and bye to him because we were both really tired and had to drive a little less than two hours to get home.
I had an incredible time at the shows on this tour. and I'm already waiting impatiently for next year.
Even more 2001 confetti |
I grabbed a big handful from a chair at Jones Beach. The ground was covered with about a half an inch of it in some spots. That must really tick off the clean up crews!! |
