Fussin' and fightin' on the hair
band circuit
July 26, 2001
Here are some fun facts about the Glam Slam Metal Jam:
The current Poison lineup features all four original members: Bret
Michaels, guitarist C.C. DeVille, drummer Rikki Rockett and bassist Bobby
Dall.
Warrant and Poison last toured together in 1990, when a backstage
hullabaloo ended the double bill. In case anyone still cares, Warrant
blamed Poison for getting too persnickety about Warrant using Poison's
props; Poison said Warrant disrespected Bret Michaels' mother backstage.
Warrant and Poison (or, more accurately, their managers) patched
things up enough to tour together again this year. However, a contract
rider purportedly prohibits Warrant from arriving at any venue earlier
than 30 minutes before its set. Also, Warrant can't sell its CD on the
road, to avoid competing with Poison's 2000 live-hits collection, "Power
to the People."
Poison's Bret Michaels has launched an acting career. He has made
cameos on a couple of TV sitcoms, and has written, directed and starred in
a handful of independent flicks.
Poison has released a new single, "Rock Star," that will appear on a
CD of new material next year.
Warrant's roster includes three of the original five bandmates: Jani
Lane, Erik Turner and Jerry Dixon.
One of Quiet Riot's founding members was the late guitar wizard Randy
Rhoads, who left the band in 1979 to play with Ozzy Osbourne.
The current Quiet Riot lineup reflects the "Metal Health" period:
singer Kevin Dubrow, guitarist Carlos Cavazo, drummer Frankie Banali and
bassist Rudy Sarzo.
For reasons we cannot understand, Chicago band Enuff Z'Nuff - a pop
outfit, not a hair band - is the opening act. If you're interested, their
latest CD is "Ten."
