Some of the most popular heavy metal bands of the '80s will
hit the DECC stage on Sunday.
Poison, Warrant and Quiet Riot will all perform at the DECC
on June 24, and fans are waiting in line to get tickets.
At least that's the way it's been so far on the Glam Slam
Metal Tour 2001, which kicked off a nationwide tour on May 23,
said Kevin DuBrow, vocalist for the group Quiet Riot.
"The reaction has been unbelievable," DuBrow said from a
hotel room in Ithaca, N.Y., where the bands were just
finishing up a gig. "It's a bigger tour, a big stage. Bigger
and bigger is better. The Poison people and their organization
are treating us like royalty."
Plus that, Quiet Riot has a new CD that's just been
released, making the tour extra sweet.
"The album is so brand new; it's the focus of this," he
said.
"Guilty Pleasures" has been called the band's best effort
since "Metal Health," the band's debut release that was No. 1
on the billboard charts and sold 10 million albums when it was
released in 1983.
"Pleasures" features 11 new Quiet Riot songs that bring
back the band's classic sound. The first single that's already
being played on the radio across the nation is the infectious
"Rock the House," which brings back the Quiet Riot sound and
style that helped define the '80s generation.
"It's always a great feeling to just finish a new album and
get on the road," DuBrow said.
In its 26-year history, the band has produced 16 releases
worldwide and continues to sell in excess of 140,000 albums a
year, a rare feat for a band of its genre.
It also is attracting generations of fans for the tour.
"There is a whole new generation of rock fans looking for
their own music, looking toward the '80s," DuBrow said. "We
also notice a lot of old fans -- and they're bringing their
kids."
Quiet Riot will play a few cuts from its new CD, but will
also do the old hits, like "Cum On Feel the Noize."
"Everybody has a story about where they first heard "Cum On
and Hear the Noize," DuBrow said. "We do a meet-and-greet
after each of our shows, and we get to hear what people really
think. Some say that Metal Health was the first album they
bought. That's really great to hear."
Tickets for the concert are still available and can be
purchased at the DECC ticket office or through Ticketmaster
outlets.
