The VH1 "Behind the Music" exposure. Rising
'80s nostalgia. Undying allegiance to hair metal.
Unredeemably poor taste.
There are any number of ways to explain the
lingering success of Poison, still popular enough
to headline its third consecutive summer
amphitheater tour, returning to the ctnow.com
Meadows Music Centre Friday.
Brett Michaels, star of stage, screen and
unauthorized porn videos, still leads the band
after so many years. The return of C.C. DeVille
made the original lineup reunion a viable concert
attraction just before the turn of the century.
The others are bassist Bobby Dall and drummer
Rikki Rockett.
Poison doesn't have a new album out, but who
needs one? They're still living off their greatest
hits, like "Talk Dirty to Me," "Nothin' But a Good
Time," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Unskinny
Bop." Also on the bill of the "Glam Slam Metal
Jam" are Warrant ("Cherry Pie," "Heaven"), led by
Jani Lane, and Quiet Riot ("Cum on Feel the Noize"
"Bang Your Head [Metal Health]").
Gates open at 4 p.m.; show starts at 6 p.m.
with a set by fourth hair metal band of the era,
Enuff Z' Nuff ("New Thing," "Fly High Michelle").
At least tickets aren't high. Reserved seats
are $35 and $25; general admission on the lawn is
$16. Prices go up $2 the day of the show.
