Given at the point of the story that Polaris has been in the village about a year, this would mean Empath is now 152 years old, and that the story itself may have taken place shortly around the time of his birthday.
Nabby is intended to be something like the cartoon show version of the original comic book's Greedy (just as the cartoon show's Greedy is something like the original comic book's Baker/Cook Smurf), though with some modifications such as having him be a kleptomaniac.
The story interestingly starts off with Polaris Psyche waiting in line for his once-a-day meal and refusing anything else Greedy was offering him for breakfast, then follows with Empath waiting in line for a morning muffin to go with his breakfast and then walking angrily away with his breakfast when Greedy finds out that he is out of muffins.
Greedy's morning muffins first appeared in the cartoon episode "The Secret Of The Village Well".
Polaris did indeed go into Tapper's tavern to engage Brainy in playing a game of the Psychelisphere in "Polaris' Fantasy".
The character Tidy, the village launderer, also appeared in "The Fear Of Smurfitude" and "I Believe I Can Fly".
Empath speaking about his "slightly bulging stomach" being a defect and then later learning that it was a normal feature of an adult male Smurf addresses the potential commentary about the Smurfs being "fat" due to their being drawn with pear-shaped bodies.
The amulet that controls Prozalek's inner demon was intended to be an analog of mental health patients requiring certain medications in order to function normally.
