~*Angel & Buffy: The End*~
But more and more abstacles are put in their way, and they take a 'break' after the pain that's caused when Angel has to pretend to become Angelus again to get information on the Mayor's 'ascension' from the now evil Faith. They *do* get back together shortly after, but Angel begins to realize how unfair their whole relationship is to her. He tells her this, and tells her that she should have someone that can be with her in ways he can't (someone who can give her as close to a normal life as she can have, who can be with her in the day, who is outside of demons and darkness, who can make love to her, and who can be truly happy with her). She argues against this, but he breaks it off...and tells her he's decided to leave town after they stop the Mayor's ascension (*if* they stop it). This breaks her heart, but she learns to accept it. He shows up at her prom, telling her it was something he didn't want to miss. They dance and the world seems to disappear (for the moment). Before the Mayor's ascension, Angel
falls victim to a deadly poison meant to kill vampires (by Faith's doing). They discover that the only cure is to drain the blood of a Slayer, and (with Angel's condition worsening each moment) Buffy sets out after Faith. The two battle (Buffy emerging victorious), but Faith's body is carried away on the back of the truck she fell onto (purposely), leaving Buffy with no cure. She returns to the mansion Angel is at, and tells him to drink her blood. He refuses, but the demon can't be held back (in his weakened state) after Buffy repeatedly punches him (causing the demon to surface). He drains her enough to restore himself to better than full health, but she becomes unconscious from the blood loss. He takes her to the hospital (where she is unknowingly put in the room next to the almost-dead Faith's), and he and the Mayor get into a confrontation after the Mayor attempts to kill her for what she did to Faith. Buffy awakens (with the help of Faith, who she met in a dream [and who isn't as evil when in a coma and almost dead]), and she forms a plan with the gang to stop the Mayor's ascension to becoming a demon. Angel tells her he won't say good-bye after the fight, it would be too much after all that's happened. The ascension comes (along with graduation time), and they put their plan into action and defeat the Mayor. Xander tells her that Angel survived the fight (when he sees her looking around for him), and says he must have already left. Xander leaves as she continues to look for any sign of her love, when he appears out of the smoke at a distnce from her. Neither moves, as they share a silent good-bye. They know that this is the end, that they can't be together, that their time for love has past by. But they also know it will always remain in their hearts, for that's something time and distance can't change. And all they can do now is move one with the hope (the dream) that they may someday be together.
And someday they will . . .
