Editorial: Recent Events That Have Been Taking Place

editorial: recent events in NY & across the country

I didn't find out about what had happened on Tuesday until I went to school. That ONE day I didn't watch the news in the morning but while in the car on the way to school I figured something was wrong, but I thought it was in Paris or somewhere. My first class is yearbook, and we have to capture every single event and how it affects our school. So we talked about it and that's when I learned about all the crazyness and terrible things that had been happening in NY and Washington DC.

Around school, the majority of students still seemed like they ddin't know what was going on, but after about 3rd period I started hearing people talking about it-- about how sad it was, how shocking, how really fake it had seemed. I mean who would have thought this would happen??

When I got home, THAT was when it really hit me because I turned on the news and watched the plane crash right into the building. Everytime I see it, I just imagine what it would've been like on that plane. How scary and how panicked the passengers must have felt. I really hope that everything was instant, and the felt the least pain possible. That might be true for the people on the plane, but obviously it isn't true for those people on the 109th floor, trapped, or jumping out of the buildings.

The other night, I was really touched when I was watching the wives, sisters, brothers, friends, cousins, whatever-- talk about the ones they have either lost or are missing. This one lady was just begging that if anyone had info to let her know because her best friend was working in the trade center that day. The man who was a set designer for BSB, he was on the plane going home to see his baby and wife. I had tears in my eyes and my heart really does go out to all those people.

What happened was SUCH an unfair, unjustified, cruel, and senseless act. So many lives were lost, so many family members, so many friends, even children. If you can help in any way, you really should. I was thinking, it seems like us teenagers or kids can't really do much, it's not as if we have bank accounts and can donate hundreds of dollars. But what if everyone donated just one dollar? What if every BSB fan did just that? You know how much money that would add up to be? Or even just making condolence cards--get your art class together or a club you are in to do this and send it or bring it to your local radio station. They will know where to send them. Donate blood if you can. Or you can even do one simple thing: just keep them in your prayers.

It's hard to be optimistic, especially if this tragedy personally hit home for you, but just have some hope and some faith that someday, even though our lives have been changed, it will be OK.

Again, my heart goes out to those who have lost their lives, lost somebody, anyone who has been affected by this. My heart goes out to the brave fire fighters and rescue team who saw danger and trouble and charged straight at it, full steam ahead, and never came back out. My heart goes out to the kids without a parent now, or a parent without a child. I really hope they can somehow cope with this and that they will be OK.

This page is dedicated to those who have been affected by this tragedy. They will be remembered.
