The Switch

The Switch

It was a cloudy afternoon. On their way to a beach house, Dot had to go on a vacation with her mom so she asked if she could bring along her good friend Zeke. He was only a year younger than Dot. Zeke had short brown hair, hazel brown eyes and a diamond stud in his left ear. Dot had shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. They both had on jean cut offs. But Dot had a purple and blue striped tee shirt on and Zeke had a green tee shirt. Soon they would be cooling down in the lake's cool waters if it didn't storm.

After long the agonizing long hours drive, we finally got there. They strpped out of the caras it started pouring rain. I felt cursed, I kicked at the gravel driveway and dust came up. Dots' mom said,"Hurry you two let's get the stuff in before we get soaked to the bone." As they got inside Casey, Dot's mom said,"Guess you two won't go swim expecially..." CRACK BANG BOOM the storm interrupted her. "Well, take your stuff up and find a room. Get your selves into dry clothes too." She pointed at our soaking wet clothes dripping on the rug. Dot grabbed her moms stuff and said,"Mom I got your stuff, I'll take them up. You start dinner." Casey smiled and said,"Thanks hon." I smiled back.

Dad was at work in my hometown, California. He was a docter and couldn't leave his job at the last minute. So he told us to go ahead and have our vacation.

Zeke and I walked up the steps it seemed like every step creaked and groaned at us as if in pain. The house looked old, kind of like an antique. The walls had a flower pattern, with pictures of sailboats hanging on the walls. Finally at the top there was a bathroom on the left. To the right were four doorways. The first one she walked up to and opened the door. Inside was a big bay window and a canopy bed with curtains. She dropped her bags. "I want to see some more okay? But wow, look at this room. The walls are wood panelled and...ooh look, a snowstorm ball." Dot turned around, Zeke had left. She felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around to talk to Zeke, "Zeke don't you scare me...," No one was there.

At dinner Dot, Zeke and Casey sat eating when Dot said,"Mom is this place haunted?" Casey smiled,"Why no, of course not. What gave you that idea?" Dot said,"Nothing, nevermind." After dinner Casey said,"Well you kids, I think we should all get some rest. Let's go upstairs to our rooms now." At the top Dot turned to her mom and hugged her goodnight, then went to her room.

Laying in bed she thought about being home when beside her bed on the night table the snowstorm ball started to glow and then played music. Classical music, a song from the Nutcracker. There was a little girl with long blond hair and she was wearing a long white gown. She was dancing in the snow. A miniature doll, no, the nutcracker prince stood beside her. The globe was so pretty. Then the curtains blew wildly, Dot shivered and got up to close the window noticing it was closed and the curtains stopped. The room felt so cold, all was quiet except for the classical tune playing, almost ghostly. Dot heard, from somewhere a little girl, well it sounded like a girl humming along with the tune then she saw her. Right beside her bed beside the glowing ball. Then the door to the room opened and Zeke walked in, he opened his mouth to say something when he saw the dancing little girl just like the one in the globe. The little girl wound the globe again so it wouldn't stop. She danced and got closer to Dot the she reached out to Dot. Dot grabbed her hand and sudden;y danced too but now it was snowing. Zeke wondered where the two went and walked towards the bed and looked at the globe, there he saw not one but two girls dancing. One was Dot. He wondered how she got in there then the blond little girl came out of the globe again. She danced alone. Dot was still inside. Zeke turned to the girl and said,"Hey you little girl where is...I mean how do I get my friend out?!" He was starting to get scared, his friend may be gone forever. The little girl stopped and smiled an evil smile saying,"She is now taking over for me, too bad. I've been trapped in there like her now, just waiting and dancing." Then she disappeared, Zeke was now horrified, he let go of the globe. It fell to his lap. He remembered at dinner how Dot said,"Is this place haunted?" Then he got up forgetting where the globe was, it fell with a thud to the floor. Then he thought maybe if I break this she'll be free again. He picked up the globe and went out of her room and to the edge of where the stairway was and he threw the globe over the rail and down it went to the floor with a smash. Dot was down stairs, standing up, wearing the white gown. She was free!

The next day they were swimming in the lake splashing each other. When Dot looked up to her bedroom window, there stood the little girl with the long blond hair staring down at them.
