It was the day before my grade 12 graduation day and I was nervous, I had my dress but no escort yet. I invited alot of my friends and a boy I wanted to ask to be my escort but I was too shy. He'll be here any moment, his famliy and him. I was so happy that he was coming, not only was he the greatest friend in the world but I was now starting to like him. I knew freindships that turn into relationships usually sometimes didn't work out but I had a feeling this would work. I was getting my nail polish remover out of my drawer and removing the sparkly purple nail polish that covered my nails. I was on my pinky when I heard the doorbell ring and I jumped to my feet. I had a weird feeling in my stomach if I seen these guys I might just kiss them smack on the lips right there in public but I amazingly controlled my urge to do just that instead I gave each of them a hug. ßut I couldn't stop myself to not at least give them each a kiss on the cheek. Then Mrs. Hanson walked in with baby Zoé in her arms. What a little adorable cute baby! I was like practically caught by Zoés' cuteness and I wanted to hold her but she didn't know me enough yet to be carried by me, she'd probably freak out because she would be in a strangers' arms. Now that they were here I was like totally even more shy than ever but I managed at least a hello. I showed them into my room, which was amazingly clean thanks to Lindsey and Melinda who helped me really make it spotless in there enough to see the actual color of the floor. I know I was exagerating but the room was pretty messy before. Jessy, Avie and Mackie were all outside playing and Ike and Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were in the kitchen talking to my grandpa in a clean kitchen which was also cleaned the day after we cleaned my room. We cleaned the whole house and my other bedroom at my other house. My walls were still covered with their pics all over. Tay laughed and said,"Nice room, you really do have quite a few posters up." He had such a great voice. Well so did Ike and Zac. Zac was looking around the room. I smiled to myself. I sat down at my desk again and finished up taking the purple off. Since my dress was black and red I wasn't sure what nail polish would match. I asked Zac and Tay,"What color should I paint my nails to match my red and black dress? I have black, red, pink, blue, purple, green, clear....."Tay and Zac answered at the same time both saying a different color,"Tay said red." Zac said,"Black."
I laughed and said,"Well make up your minds, which one?"
Tay agreed on me using black instead. It was settled I took the black nail polish in my hands and said,"Let's go outside, this room is so hot." I thought to myself, 'Am I blushing? Is it that having two cute boys in my room and one that I liked that made it so hot? What thoughts.'
My nail polish was finally dry after 2 minutes and I went inside and got three Dr. Pepper soda's. I opened mine and took a long drink. I was glad my granny agreed to let the Hanson's and I stay at the house and she stay at Rosie Fosters' house (her sister) for the night. It would go like this. Mr. and Mrs. Hanson in my granny's room with Zoé and Mackie. Avie and Jessie would sleep on a spongy in my granny's room. Tay, Ike and Zac in the spare bedroom. It was so hot today. Especially for just sitting in the sun. I layed back and stretched out on the lawn beside Zac and Tay who then also layed down in the cool grass.
I said,"Sheesh it's so hot. How about we go swimming? All of us?"
We all agreed to it and it took us a while to get everyone ready but we finally got to the lake and no one was swimming, since a big ball game was going on today. I threw my towel and stuff on the sand and ran to the edge of the water. Just as Tay and Zac stepped into the water. I did too. It was so cold. We walked in a little ways. Zac jumped in and so did Ike. Tay and I were still walking in. Ike and Zac went deeper out. We were up to our knees in the cold water now and I turned to Tay, he looked at me too and we blushed. I decided to start it, I pushed Tay into the cold water and down he went, into that water. He came up laughing and he jumped at me and pushed. He lost balence and he fell in the water too. We were both splashing each other and laughing now.
That evening was beautiful, Tay and I were still at the lake on the shore watching the sunset. We had just finished talking about how life would be with no rules. It got so funny. But I wanted to watch the sun go down. I yawned and shivered. I said,"I forgot my stupid jacket at home." Tay had his towel around himself and he pulled it around me and when he did his arms were around my shoulders from behind. I leaned back on his chest and he hugged me. He said,"Now I'm cold." Then we started laughing. I thougt to myself, 'What's so funny?'
After the sun had gone down, Tay and I went up the hill and everyone was tired so we headed to my grannys' house and I opened the door with my keys. Tay, Zac and I headed straight for my room and Ike went to the spare room to lay down. Zac hugged me goodnight and I kissed him on the cheek then he went to the spare room too. I looked into Tays' ocean blue eyes and I hugged him goodnight, longer than I hugged the others. Then I was going to kiss him on the cheek but I got a surprise, Tay had me around the waiste and he kissed me on the lips. At first I was surprised and shocked then I closed my eyes and hugged him. We parted and we said goodnight. I fell asleep fast that night, I had thought I would have good dreams but unfortunately I had bad dreams and I was crying. Next thing I knew someone was waking me up and it was Tay. I sat up straight fast. I hugged him right away. There was no one else in the room and it was in the middle of the night. I whispered to Tay,"A bad dream." Then I turned to him and kissed him. I parted and said,"I don't have an escort, so I was wondering.....will you be my escort Tay?"
He said,"Sure I will." Then he kissed me. We sat there kissing for quite a while, I'm not certain how long though but quite a while. I fell asleep again easily but no bad dream this time.
I woke up pretty early to find no one home but Zac and Tay, still asleep. Why should they get up early if they're on holidays right? I got dressed and washed up. Beside the phone in the living room was a note. It said,'We just went to the store. We'll be right back in about half an hour because after that Rita has asked us to go pick berries with her. Mom and dad.' My granny sure loves picking berries. I turned on the tv and the satelite. On Teletoon was one of my most fave tv cartoon of all, Animaniacs. Next thing I knew I looked beside me and there was Zac sitting there. It startled me then he looked at me and I smiled and said,"I didn't hear you come in here."
Zac said,"Yeah I'm quiet as a mouse." I smiled again.
I said,"I think Tay better wake up now, I'll go wake him."
Zac said,"It's only 9am."
I said,"I know. I can tell time." Then I laughed and got up. I went into the spare room where Tay was sleeping. I stood there watching how he slept then I sat down at his side. First I just kissed his cheek gently and then his forhead. I kissed him gently on the lips and he wrapped his arms around me. I was surprised at first then I hugged him back. We kissed there for about 10 minutes then we went in my room to get my little portable walkman stereo. In the kitchen I grabbed a jar and poured some Iced Tea for us to drink. We sat in the front lawn on the grass. Tay sat behind me and hugged me from behind. I held his hands in front. The little cassette walkman stereo had just gotten new batteries so it played loud and clear, the song was Viva Forever. I thought we could just lay like this all day long, so relaxing. I thought it might be cool to go for a walk along the beachshore up to my grandpa's house if we left a note for them. But then again, this is so relaxing.
I was in my room getting my hair done by Diana, it was up in a bun on my head and the baby hair that hung down on the sides were curled with a curling iron. She was spraying hair spray on now. I put a little eye shadow on and a little bit of blush, Mascara and eye liner. Then I put some of my apple body spray on and put it in my packsack so I could put some on later tonight when it wears off. I then put on my red and black long ball gown dress. I felt dorky but I thought I looked okay enough to go.
In the next room Tay, Ike and Zac were getting ready too. Everyone was running around the house trying to get ready. We had to get there in about half an hour. I stood in my room thinking who's that strange looking girl staring at me and I knew it was me but it sure didn't look like me. I never hardly wear make up, only at special occasions.
Finally everyone was ready I came out of my room and everyone looked at me and thought I looked great, especially Tay. Oh god he looked excellent too. I whispered to him as we entered the Calling Lake Community Complex, that he looked great and he said I looked good too. I was smiling and blushing at the same time as all the people in the complex stared as they seen who I was with and who was my escort for the grad. Evan rushed to my side and for the first time ever said to me,"Leah you look great, who's this boy?" Evan had been one of my crushes last year but he didn't even show any intrest in me so I gave up. I looked at him and said,"Well first of all, thank you for noticing and this is my escort and boyfriend Taylor." Tay held out his hand in a hand shake. Evan reached out and they shook hands. I walked away from Evan with Tay then. We went into the room where everything was happening. It looked so awesome in there. We went to get a drink and sat down outside where we could be alone and it was quiet. It was getting dark. Our part was coming up and Ike was going to come get us when it was time to do our stuff. Just the Ike said,"They're ready." We got up and headed inside. We lined up outside the double doors that lead into the room. The grade 9 grads were in the front with their escorts. Then our turn finally came as the grad tune played we walked slowly like we were walking down a wedding aisle, I blushed, and we stepped onto the stage and I got my awards, certificates, gift and Highschool Diploma, I shook their hands then I stood at the front of the stage with Tay as people took pics. Then we walked down and sat at the table.
After that we ate the grad dinner, Tay and I got up to get our food as we stood in line. The food looked great and so many varieties of desserts. I grabbed a Jell-O with whipped cream and fruit cup for the dessert. After we ate we had the ceremony where we had a prayer by Francois in cree then english. Then the valedictorians went on the stage and made their speech.
Then we had a break as the tables were cleared to the side and the DJ and stuff was set up on stage, all food cleared away. The dance started at 9pm that evening and most parents went home and we told ours that we'd just walk home, Tay and I. Ike and Zac would call for a ride home later. The first song started and the DJ said it was only for the grads and their escorts. I said to Tay as we stepped onto the dance floor,"I don't know how to dance."
He said,"Me either, just copy everyone else." We were lucky it was only a slow song. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, his were around my waiste. We stared into each others eyes, this time without blushing.
