"Dreaming Wakefulness"

I see it all so clearly
in my mind's eye
as I travel the sparsely lit passage
to my chamber
my haven of sweet imagination
but tonight it seems
Fate's turn
to make my wonderous fantasies
come to life.

My slippers patting lightly
on the stone walkway
a flicker of firelight
the dance of cool shadow
Your gentle hands
firmly grasp my shoulders
pulling my soft warmth
against your pleading desire
reality ebbing into obscurity
drowning in your familiarity
your heated words of passion
licking as flame to my ear
igniting the whole of me.

Your lips finding mine
under the veil of newly made darkness
I moan, but it is muffled
as your tongue silences
my wordless pleas
travelling against my neck
your teasing causes my heart
to pulsate madly
as my thoughts race
"What if someone should find us?
This is too delicious of a moment
to push away and regret it
as I would forevermore."

You bend momentarily
lifting me in your arms
nestling my nose to your neck
you continue my journey for me
the doors close quickly behind
with a flurry of textures
we find ourselves lost
in blissfull revelerie
under a sea of blankets.

Your tender mouth
craving me fully
becomes more daring
with each button unlatched
and fabric slipped away
purring sensuously
as my tongue moistens my lips
then your own.
Slipping your arms
underneath my body
the palms of your hands
caressing the bare skin of my back
the emotions intensifying
in us there is no denying
together we've come
and he were shall stay
in commitment and passion
honor and love
I for you
and you for me
for all of what we cannot see.

Your brilliant smile
your gutteral laugh
as you faintly petition to my ears
"I want to get lost in you
every night from hereafter
if you, my Lady, shall so allow."
I let loose a hearty laugh
the echo ringing off the walls
"Of course my dear,
my darling nobleman!
There would be no other
with whom I would choose
to share this bed."

You then purr delightedly
in turn against my neck
then with a grand smile
you lovingly press your lips
to my own
drifting off
into our satiated slumber,
your body cuddling mine tight.

With the coming rays of the morning
our eyes meet
as our thoughts rush back to the night
a soft rapping
comes to my door.
My lady-in-waiting enters
encountering us she blushes and turns
we are thusly amused
by the picture we must make.

You decide to take your leave
kissing my forehead warmly, longingly...
as you rise from the bed with a smile
dressing quickly
you bow to my lady at the door
looking dashing and gallant as ever
You turn and flash me
a privied, knowing look
as I giggle and wink in return.

My lady smiles conspiratorially
but I smile and try to shake it off
"Tonight is the grand banquet and ball
you must not forget."
The euphoria of past hours
is subdued in that recollection.
My day passes slowly
without event
my Nobleman sends a letter
affirming his attendance to this fete.

I don my dress
silk in the color of baby pink
I appear as a glistening tulip
sleek in the spring sun
the embroidered diamonds
like dewdrops
clinging and shimmering
accenting my ears
and my collar
with their lovely incandescence.

I join the party
as it has already begun
my heart pounding
as a hand touches my arm
I turn excitedly
but my fervor is quickly doused
for it is not my love
but Sir Francis
the man meant to be my spouse.
I manage to cringe a smile
he is by no means unattractive
but in manners
and sincerity
he is truly lacking.

He takes my hand
we begin to waltz
before long it's time for the banquet
and still no sign of my love.
We have all been seated
and are about to begin
when the butler opens the door
and my beloved walks in.
His smile is radiant
as his eyes scan the room
and find me
All the more truly eligible girls
notice this
I can feel their seething enmity.
As he gallantly bows
and takes the seat next to mine.
Sir Francis scowls
My father is curious
yet conversation goes smoothly.

After our feast
another waltz has started
the company collectively
arises and takes partners
You turn to me
and take my hand
I am extremely happy
in this moment so grand.

The players are finally done
the music is through
we stop dancing and I smile
while looking up at you.
My father stands
and proposes a toast
to me, his lovely daughter
and his future son-in-law
in whom he loves to boast.
I am immediately saddened
as all eyes fall upon me
I want to cry out or scream
but I merely walk forward.

Standing besides my father
his eyes all aglow
at this wealthy betrothal
"Tell me my dear
what do you think
of this marriage proposal?"

I can feel my eyes
begin to water
as I look out over the crowd
and into the eyes
of the one to whom I've already given my heart
"I do not like this!
I will not see it through!"
Sir Francis full of anger
My father not knowing what to do.
"Then you shall be sent away
if this proposal is not agreeable to you!"

I can take this no longer
our public contention
I bolt through the crowd
the heaviness in my heart
growing stronger
my feet pounding as I run
my mind is flooded
with memories from
the night before
when all was right and beautiful
experiencing love
honest, tender, and pure.
I can see it all now
so clearly in my mind's eye....
